Nicola Valley Film Society showing: Tell No One:

On January 18th 2010 I have it on good authority that the local film society of which I am a member showed this internationally acclaimed film at the local civic center. I did not attend , however the film has been out since 2006. Here are some common knowledge facts about it  that are available from numbers of sources; including Wikipedia where you may update or edit any facts you feel are remiss.  Produced in France for a budget of about 11 million dollars US in two thousand and six it ran a year  and grossed 17 million a tidy profit for an international film. Then it was released in Great Britain  for the year 2007, we assume that the French language was still its venue  and would think that it had english subtitles as its profits climbed closer to its 30 odd million noted gross take. An English language release was projected for a 2010 release however we did not ask if the local showing included this.

The film got critical acclaim and was noted as the best film Sir Michael Caine had seen in 2007.Micheal Caine was in the last local showing I saw,  he as a losing it ,  as a  dying ,as a senile, old man in a private nursing home. I hope he was not type cast for it.

The plot as outlined by sources is a complicated who done it, in the spirit of the old the butler done it. A  murdered wife , communicates to her husband 8 years after her death to bring about ( stupid scenario clues to her staged murder that is not worth commenting on) my view . Of course fortunes are reversed and they are reunited  at the their childhood rendezvous a lake with all solved.

Life is never all solved in my view  and my take on this film is that it has some merit in reminding us that  the web of deceit gets  bigger when you first start to deceive; and thats all.The trailer shows graphic bruising from beatings and pistols pointed. A man running his heart out from something or to something?

Film Rates: *** Three stars
