This young man is a proud member of the Rocky Mountain Rangers 950 Merritt Cadet corps it has 23 young people of this community of 7080 souls including five Sargents as he is, The cadet is 17 years of age. When I was one the range was 13 before Jan 1 of the enrollment year to 18. I doubt if its changed. When I spoke to him he was agreeable that the goal was to make better citizens of people not soldiers. When I said I had two honorable release certificates form the primary reserves he agreed that they were different roles for cadets than from the sponsoring regiments.
The real public interest in this interview is the three medals he wears all for excellence and service including one remembering Lord Strathcona, the said driver of the last spike making the country whole from sea to sea, as our motto goes. That by a promised rail link to British Columbia. The medal maybe a little much for a 13-year-old,and perhaps not for a 17-year-old however its hard to argue the sentiment.
If a person said that it is too much for an infant ( a person under majority age) would he be also saying that being assertive in the economy is only for tokens as well. Would it limit those who dream of a better life by economy to wait for it to come from the top down and not pursue free associations and free markets to thrive. The easy answer is probably the one that those that would cook this want. Tell him he’s to young and then he will resent you and be more dependant on them. It always comes around again.
Lots of third year apprentices out there that never make journymen and no simple answers in life.
