 Population: a recent announcement of closures has drawn fear of a population decline. 60 jobs from two small mining operations and about 80 from the closing of Ardew Wood Products are in the public mind.

Editors Note we feel that these jobs are going to be taken up with placements in the close geographical area. Merritt still remains a practical community with exception amenities makin living  here and working elsewhere a option for these placements. Ardew has the last remaining burner in town although not in use, it serves as an icon to the other mills that are quite modern.
