Conditions to operate, 157 in total….

The May 19th decision of the twining of the trans mountain twinning of a pipeline was not an absolute, now the conditions are demonstrated is the next challenge.

The 157 conditions apply during various stages of the Project’s life cycle, including before construction, during construction and during operation of the pipeline. Conditions are designed to reduce possible risks identified during the application process and ensure the pipeline is planned, built and operated safely. The requirements also ensure Trans Mountain protects the environment and respects the rights of those directly affected by the Project through construction, mitigation and into many years of operations.

The conditions, which would be enforced by the NEB, cover a wide range of topics, including:
•Safety and integrity of the pipeline;
•Emergency preparedness and response;
•Protection of the environment;
•Ongoing consultation with those affected, including Aboriginal communities;
•Socio-economic matters;
•Affirmation of commercial support for the Project prior to construction; and
•Financial responsibility.

Shell Canada giving up expired oil exploration leases in the arctic, is not one of them listed unless you consider it ongoing consultation and expand it to interested parties.
Health and safety of the stakeholders are an ongoing concern . To live up to the adds on environment and economy in balance is  not a mean feat. Its  a great promise but should we just say lets see…

The Petro Canada Station here in Merritt received a delivery of gasoline yesterday ending its 2 day lack. Today it is selling regular gasoline at a dollar nineteen a liter.

When we asked a customer fueling his vehicle bearing Saskatchewan plates if he had any trouble greeting gas on his trip from the east he said no. ” didn’t have to carry some in your pockets to get here ”  “no”.
At this writing the Chevron station on Dewolf way is selling regular gasoline at $116.9 a liter. http://www.gasbuddy.com/

Gas price, the availability of fuel  File  Photo KDG

There was no gasoline available at the Petro Canada outlet at the Junction of Highway 5 and 97c.

On Monday there was no word on when there would be any available from their refiner Sun Corp.

The outlet was selling regular gasoline at 119.9 a liter on the weekend.

At 11 am this morning the downtown Petro Canada said they don’t have any idea when they will have fuel and the other Petro Canada  off the freeway exit here has none.

The source didn’t know if other such as Shell or Chevron had gas.

Gas buddy is reporting prices but not availability. The postings are calling it temporary.

Jason a person in charge of the response vans pointed out materials for sopping up oil as well as generators and small tools.

TGIF- Adopt a road

The City crews were out putting up a sign across from the MacDonald’s on River Ranch Road. The sign was an adopt a road sign and it is because the Vintage Car Club of Canada’s local chapter adopted the walking trail that runs from the River ranch road corner west to the Court House across from the Hospital. The trail was put in last year by BC Hydro in part, it is free of over head lines.
The club will be having clean up bees in the future as their part in its use, according to a source.

If you have the luxury of a back yard here’s a carbon sink you may want to try.

Professor Downing found that constructed ponds and lakes on farmland in the United States bury carbon at a much higher rate than expected; as much as 20-50 times the rate at which trees trap carbon. In addition, ponds were found to take up carbon at a higher rate than larger lakes.

“Aquatic ecosystems play a disproportionately large role in the global carbon budget,” Downing said. “Despite being overlooked in the past, it’s small bodies of water that are important because they take up carbon at a high rate and there are more of them than previously thought. The combined effect is that farm ponds could be burying as much carbon as the world’s oceans, each year.” source Science Daily…Iowa State University

Mark from Osoyoos was at the Voght street quick charger on the weekend. He sais he was going to Hope for a tesla meet at the hope quick(Tesla provided) charger. He said that his charge here in Merritt cost him about 20 dollars. The rate was at 35 cents a kilowatt hour. A disabled man in an electric cart came by and Mark answered his question about cost ” you would pay 10 cents a kilowatt hour charging your cart at home as would I if I used household power to charge my 2010 Tesla S.”
Mark also related pleasure that 30 Quick chargers have been added in BC including some in the Princeton area. The Voght street quick charger next to the Downtown Tourist Info Center ( the Baillie House) is in the Green lots system its network number is 33013, it sits next to a 90 amp AC charger (70 continuous). The area has restricted parking for EVs.
