Deadline for applications June 15th

The municipality has access to a 25,000.00 grant for seniors targeted projects. The dead line is June 15th to apply. If your a senior and have a project in mind talk to your local city official’s to apply by the deadline.

The new horizons program allows multiple applications up to the 25 thousand dollar cumulative amount.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is currently accepting funding applications of up to a maximum of $25,000 per year per organization for community-based projects. Your organization can submit multiple applications but the total of all applications combined must not exceed $25,000, including applicable taxes per year, per organization.

 

Source UBCM   This federal program provides grants of up to $25,000 to organizations, including local governments, to help seniors make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.
The program supports projects that encourage seniors to play an important role in their communities by volunteering, participating in and leading community activities, and organizations to make necessary modifications or repairs to their existing facilities, or to purchase equipment and furnishings to enable programs and activities for seniors.

Giant book sale started

 

The local library has begun their book sale at the 1691 Garcia Street location. Coupons were available for one free item a day on the counters before the sale, and may still be found in the program guide or published in the local weekly paper The Merritt Herald. 

Some great hard cover books are available for 2 dollars  and there is a room full of paperbacks for a dollar a piece.

The book sale goes to Saturday December 9th with new items being unboxed daily.

The British Columbia Government has today announced a half million dollars of funding for age friendly grants. The aim is for 25 thousand dollar grants to do give local governments an ability to make plans  or implement polices projects to make age friendly communities . Helping seniors to stay in place an age in age in a friendly environment.

The Age-friendly Communities grant program is intended to assist local governments in BC to best support aging populations, develop and implement policies and plans, or undertake projects that enable seniors to age in place and facilitate the creation of age-friendly communities.
