Survey pins

The hotel that burned over three years ago is having its survey pins located. That three years must have been a drag on income for the principles, we hope that the site is resolved soon.

Medals for cadets.

This young man is a proud member of the Rocky Mountain Rangers 950 Merritt Cadet corps it has 23 young people of this community of 7080 souls including five Sargents as he is, The cadet is 17 years of age. When I was one the range was 13 before Jan 1 of the enrollment year to 18. I doubt if its changed. When I spoke to him he was agreeable that the goal was to make better citizens of people not soldiers. When I said I had two honorable release certificates form the primary reserves he agreed that they were different roles for cadets than from the sponsoring regiments.
The real public interest in this interview is the three medals he wears all for excellence and service including one remembering Lord Strathcona, the said driver of the last spike making the country whole from sea to sea, as our motto goes. That by a promised rail link to British Columbia. The medal maybe a little much for a 13-year-old,and perhaps not for a 17-year-old however its hard to argue the sentiment.
If a person said that it is too much for an infant ( a person under majority age) would he be also saying that being assertive in the economy is only for tokens as well. Would it limit those who dream of a better life by economy to wait for it to come from the top down and not pursue free associations and free markets to thrive. The easy answer is probably the one that those that would cook this want. Tell him he’s to young and then he will resent you and be more dependant on them. It always comes around again.
Lots of third year apprentices out there that never make journymen and no simple answers in life.

Great wall inspiration

GREAT WALL OF CHINA TAKE

These benches are a concrete that substitute sand and gravel for soil said to last a long time they have some similarity to the mix used to make the big wall in China. That lasted a while. They are a feature of the legacy square in downtown Merritt I wonder if the feudal Chinese had problems with graphitte, I think not. There is little as a maned both close to the square is occupied by people well thought of ,however it must not completely carry through the night as this felt marker wielder must believe.

Former flag of CanadaThis flag goes back always, Canada flew it before the current one  adopted in 1965 , it was unofficial flag as the jack of UK was still official however it gave Canada a distinctiveness from the 1890’s and   sanctioned by order in council and various other methods but never by parliament. Parliament is the legal authority in Canada. Our current flag was passed by parliament after a plebiscite.

Diamond Drilling

Mineral ExplorationThis pickup  owed by a family business in Princeton and  used to transport crews and equipment to mineral exploration sites where continuous core samples are produced , layed out in boxes that  read like a book. The samples then can be split, logged, and assayed for mineral content. According to the mining association 95 percent of the province  is explored, and when talking to a man from the UK about it he says that leaves 5%; to us that’s huge. Copper mines in South America that had lower labor costs and shipping concerns dampened the industry for more than a decade, here however, in BC, the industry is  enjoying a bit of a come back. The industry at its zenith employed about 30,000 people in good high paying jobs. That was about the size of the civil service and they purchased a lot of expensive supplies. Safety standards where high and corporate involvement in the community mirrored democratic ideals.

Civil rights responsible police.

Arrest, part of a normal day for the thin blue line,  this recent arrest in downtown Merritt shows an officer taking into custody a suspect, he can on reasonable suspicion detain a person for 24 hours. That person can have a lawyer present for questioning, and ask for a writ to produce him in court with charges against him . Special laws after 911 undermined that civil right with out suspending all civil rights for citizens.
