Tanks a million…

Trans Mountain confident in Burnaby facility

The tariff deliverer of Alberta oil for the past 6 and a half decades says it is confident in the safety of its Burnaby storage facility. On May 9th in its newsletter the company reiterated its commitment to safely deliver oil to the shores of the pacific coast.

In more than 65 years of operation, we’ve never had a storage tank fire or structural incident with one of our tanks. Although tank fires and seismic tank incidents world-wide are extremely rare, our prevention and emergency management programs are an integral part of keeping our terminals operating safely.
Since the Burnaby Terminal was originally constructed, and as knowledge about seismic events has improved, upgrades have been completed at our facilities and along our pipeline system, including Burnaby Terminal, to address seismic hazards. These upgrades included the reconstruction of the Burnaby secondary containment berms, upgrade to the Burnaby fire protection system and replacement of piping connections on a number of tanks.

At this writing the Federal government just announced a tourism plan to increase of peak international visits. The 60 million dollar package is aimed at helping communities enhance attractions

Trans Mountain seems to be developing into a one off proposition at best, and the expansion an enhanced, controlled maintenance project and public asset in the national interest. An Icon similar to the CPR. PP

Gratuities for workers to be under employment standards…

The BC Government has made a commitment to strengthen worker’s rights in respect to the tips you give your server after a meal out. Tips have not been on the check in BC like other place like France, However electronic billing has come to be a big part of the collection and sharing of tips. Sharing tips with the cooking staff and the house is a current practice now in some places. The Government is working on this along with four other issues.
better protect children and youth from dangerous work;
make it easier for workers to get help when they feel their rights have been violated;
provide more job protection to people dealing with difficult personal circumstances; and
ensure people are paid the wages they are owed — and that those that violate the law do not have an unfair economic advantage…
