Local naturalist and president of the Nicola Naturist’s will present on the artic at the next meeting on November 16th at the local community college top of the hill Belshaw avenue in Merritt.

 

Nicola Naturalist Society president Alan Burger regularly works as a naturalist/lecturer on a small ecotourist ship in the Arctic and Antarctic. In this presentation he shares his experiences and photos of wildlife and the environment in the High Arctic north of Norway (Svalbard Archipelago) & East Greenland. This area supports high densities of Polar Bears, and thriving populations of Walrus, Muskox, Reindeer, Arctic Fox and more. Plus dramatic glaciers & tundra flora.

 

Free parking at the college, no food of drink in the theater, start time 7PM.

British Columbia is getting an artic front with snow and double digit minus over night lows. This sudden onset old man winter has caught a few without snow tires in the interior, and the forecast is up to 50 centimeters in some pasts of the interior.

There is a Nicola Valley Garden club here in Merritt, membership 15 dollars, a year and they are having a meeting on Wednesday November 1st at 7PM. Room 4 Merritt civic center, with a speaker presenting on cedar.

Merritt has over a hundred days annually with more then 0.2mm of precipitation. It is 605 meters in elevation, with over 2000 hrs of sunshine per anum. An average of 250 frost free days.

The City of Merritt is having A draw for a free bus pass, you need to qualify by identify four places were photos of route items are. The photos are on the poster you can enter by giving your answer to a driver or go to the society office 2185 Voght street (under city hall.) The prize will be awarded on November 15th at the service’s. anniversary.
The City runs two buses through the city and out to Lower Nicola.

Maudie is the international film being presented by the Nicola Valley Film Society at the local community college NVIT, top of the hill Belshaw avenue.
Start time is 7PM 5 dollar admission on a 2 dollar membership, season pass holders come early to get your seats. No food or drink in the theater.
