British Columbia is just under 75 percent immunization of the adult population. That’s 75 percent that has some immunization, be sure to get your second shot to make that 75 percent solid.. The health workers are vaccinating three hundred thousand a week at this point. This puts us within about 5 percent of a strong herd immunity. When complete (à static population with that much immunization would be mostly assured that it will not take off out of control .. Here’s hoping that this continues to a point of total breaking of the virus and its demonstrative end in BC.
Variants and the unknown are still a concern. For a hope going forward caution with action is being applied. Vaccination is the key at this point
Invitations for the second dose are coming after 8 weeks from the 1st dose and the health people are relying on bookings to insure doses for each day are enough. A letter, email, or text will be delivered to all that got their number one shot..

Plan when planting and prune to a three meter gap from power limes. BC Hydro says power can jump a gap of up to 3 meters.
Three meters…
Electricity has the ability to arc across a gap from its source (the power line) and electrify objects within three metres. This can include you, the tools or ladder you’re using, and parts of the tree, leading to serious injury or even death. That’s why keeping a safe distance is always important.

There are some special considerations when planting near power lines to help avoid potential issues, like the tree falling on the power line during a storm, or growing into the line.
Here are some important tips to follow before you purchase new trees or hedges for your property:
Right hight right light.
Low zone: This area extends five metres on either side of the power line. Trees planted here should have a maximum mature height of six metres or less.
Medium zone: This area extends from the edge of the low zone to a distance of 10 metres from the pole and power line. The maximum, mature height of trees in this zone should be 12 metres. Overheight trees in this zone cause the majority of outages.
Tall zone: Once you’re in an area more than 10 metres from power lines and poles, virtually any strong, healthy tree is fine to be planted in this area.

Today is national Donald duck day in the USA. It is that way because Donald Duck was born ( so to speak ) on June 9th 1934. The cartoon character like others of Cartoonist and Entrepreneur. Walt Disney the silly duck cartoons brought a lot of relief to many people during the tough times of the 1930s.

The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council has Judy Young at their gallery , corner of Nicola and Voght in Merritt BC. The Show will go on until June 17th at regular gallery hours.
Her show includes a black and white pencil pastel of screen actress Marlene Dietrich. One of Judy’s favorite classical actors. Marlene was a driven force in eight decades of screen. Playing with greats like Spencer Tracy and Jimmie Stewart, Marlene had a big input to what was called the Golden age of Hollywood. The painting ” one of my babies” according to Judy has a powerful effect in the demonstration of the show.
Judies show is a mixed image show about her interests and includes besides Dietrich’s some from Vancouver streets in the 50’s and old rural barns from the Nicola and much more.

What is normal? It matters the context, what is normal to a drowning person is not normal to a secure lively individual. So by the end of summer there is a hope for normal life back to the people of BC that have endured a long bout of pandemic lessoned activity. This is a desire that is different with many people those that nearly drowned in the time period . And those that did reasonably well with the support given will have a different take on what is normal of normal. The people that did better by it another take.
To continue the metaphor of the drowning man, throwing a line that is reachable and not taken will produce a survivor that has a view of his individual effort being the value to be preserved. A good and strong reserve going forward for him to risk again, Those that were dependant will remain dependant but in truth no one had a complete case of either or as the effect of one played into the experience of the other. This will be the continuing normal for going forward for some time more.
It’s a two way street give and it comes back or maybe if not it goes some where you have effected situations unkown! We are all in this together ,a communicable disease that has no redemption in its self. But we all contribute to the pot of hope and the balancing of outcome.
Living our lives and doing our lively hoods offends or challenges others in a way out of our control however offending with our talk is mostly in our control and if we do not offend lightly in speech and other communications we are to be commented. This is needed when trying to return to a normal real or imagined. Good luck!
See you on the normal side…

The venue has changed with the coming of no fault since May 1st 2021.

The BC government is looking for a working group to deal with road safety issues around deaths and serious injury. The crown insurer went to a no fault system with a promise for more ” care” for injuries to go with a promised 20 percent rate drop from May 1st 2021.
On May 21, the provincial government launched BC Road Safety Strategy 2025: A Collaborative Framework for Road Safety. Guided by the Road Safety Strategy Steering Committee, of which UBCM is a member, this revitalized strategy provides a clear vision of provincial road safety to 2025.
BC Road Safety Strategy 2025 is based on three pillars and is rooted in the vision of realizing zero fatalities and serious injuries on BC roads. The three pillars are:
The framework outlines the tools, initiatives, awareness campaigns and enforcement programs that are creating a road safety network in BC. It recognizes that road safety is a shared responsibility, and supports a vision for working together to reduce fatalities and serious injuries.
In alignment with Canada’s commitment to and BC’s adoption of the 2020 Stockholm Declaration, the Strategy seeks for a 50% reduction in road-related deaths and injuries by 2030.
In addition to the full Strategy, the Province has released an “at-a-glance” summary outlining key objectives and targets
The working groups are intended to assist a 14 member Executive Committee established to implement the Provincial BC Road Safety Strategy. The British Columbia Road Safety Strategy was developed to align with Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2015. The strategy is intended to be a collaborative process and provide a framework for mobilizing all stakeholders in improving road safety and in raising public awareness and commitment to road safety. The overall goal of the strategy is to make British Columbia roads the safest in North America and to work toward the ultimate goal of zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
If you are interested in working on one of these committees please identify the committee you are interested in and contact Ken Vance at kvance@ubcm.ca by March 26, 2014.
Information about the strategy is available on the OSMV website.
There were 289 deaths on BC roads in 2014 going up to 295 in 2015,then dropping to 281 and 282 in 2016 and 17. Speeding remained the number one causation in deaths with 133 in 2009 coming down to create a 10 year average of 93 at the end of 2018. ( police reported)

Did you play the exercise in school, you know the one where you are given a statement to whisper in the ear of the class mate in the desk ahead of you, then see how it ends up after going through the class. It was often way out of its starting voice You wonder if now days, is it starting out as something bad and maybe got closer to the truth along the way. That is how I feel when I try to see and add rational footing to statements that are inflaming and derisive. Where did this thing come from, a delusion forum, a fear and sensational reserve of misinformation, we wonder! Some say that it is now a public health issue , not a only a journalism or free speech issue.
. Humour sometimes softened the effect, but that science has gone over to one ( in most incidences) format, that is derogatory sex jokes, is it the last refuge of civility to use sex to get a laugh at hard positions of fear and delusion, we wonder.
Engagement worked as a softener of hard positions once, now power of speech is used to gain undeserved engagement. We separated criminal attitudes once, and most people knew what that was! Blinding of good values by constant misinformation ( once called slander or libel ) is a real prospect now, that has as its best cure the resolve to know that truth! Not just the truth as It may be truth, but is it presented in a way that will harm or in positive action in remedial gain. You are responsible to do that in a way that sees a pathway to peace, not in unrelenting wrath.
Gravediggers never run out of work, when it gets slack they can protest in a way that leaves only one way forward. While a recurrent evil, those attitudes do persist in the panic of mistruth and reciting it stirs that pot of inspiration, Do not be a gravedigger unless its a truth that has to live…We wonder…

“Trust in news has become a public health issue,” said CJF Board Chair Kathy English. “With misinformation about vaccines readily available online, journalists provide trustworthy information that can inform life-saving decisions.”
The CJF survey included a quiz that measured people’s belief in some of the most prominent false stories about COVID-19 and the vaccine. Quebecers were least likely to score an A (at least 10 out of 12 questions correct) compared to any other region in Canada and more than a quarter of Quebecers failed altogether. Only 28 percent of Canadians scored an A.
“Our research shows that those who trust media and journalists are more informed about the benefits of COVID-19 vaccines than those who mistrust media and get their information from other sources,” said Natalie Turvey, President and Executive Director of the CJF. “In addition, we found that 83 percent of the people who scored highest on the quiz trust journalists to give them information about COVID and the vaccines, indicating that their news literacy is high.”
The research showed that 64 percent of Quebecers will get the COVID vaccine as soon as it is available to them (higher than the national rate, which saw 61 percent of Canadians say they will get a COVID-19 vaccine right away). Eight percent of Quebecers say they never will get a vaccine. By comparison, Alberta has the highest number of people who will never be vaccinated (13 percent).
