The annual run to raise money for kids programs is on Saturday September 29th this year.

The run offers:

  • Certified Routes
  • Open to individuals
  • Walk or Run
  • Teams

Early bird registration ends July 31st and the event is BC Athletics sanctioned. FMI 250-315-9331.  run

Twice around the track at Merritt’s Voght  park, 10K or half marathon. All age’s welcome.  The event this year is the organizations 8th annual.

BC hydro has completed the 2018 program on “30 Minute ” Quick chargers. Bringing their total to 58 in the province.

he second phase includes 28 new stations, in addition to the 30 that were completed in 2016. There are 13 new stations in the Lower Mainland and two new stations at the Britton Creek rest area on the Coquihalla Highway, allowing drivers to quickly charge up before heading to the Southern Interior – or to the Kootenays. The stations also connect drivers from Horseshoe Bay to the west coast of Vancouver Island.

They utility is now planning another phase to bring more quick chargers to drivers from Kamloops North to Prince George. Hydro Chargers

Line ups may be avoided by seeing if a charger ahead is occupied, by a smart device. There are often another 240 volt charger in the proximity of the  Hydro 500 volt quick chargers.

Merritt’s new Quick Charger has connections to Bolt and Leaf models EV.

The Trans Mountain pipeline compony has filed its schedule for work for the next six months. Work has been announced as starting in August from Alberta according to the CBC. The pipeline company it self synopsizes the schedule as:

Trans Mountain has filed a six month outlook summary schedule for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project with the National Energy Board (NEB) outlining construction activities planned for 2018. A copy of the filing can be found here. Work will begin in Alberta in August and the North Thompson region of BC in late September. Additional construction is planned in the Lower Mainland of BC and the work at Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, that has been underway since September 2017, will continue.  Source Trans Mountain.

Now nationalized promises have been made not to increase the amount of oil produced but to make the infrastructure more efficient , safer and pay a better value to the owners. Expanding a market beyond the American is anticipated to bring better profitability.

We hope the press will keep them to the promises they made.

The season for hurricanes is on and the east coast should always be wary. However authorities are saying that it should be a near normal or high normal.

NOAA updates their projections in August, using method such El Nino monitoring. The fall is the height of the season.

The Atlantic Season for weather is a concern for us all Though their effects on human populations are often devastating, tropical cyclones can relieve drought conditions. Anna Miller has her birthday on Sunday she will be a triple digit birthday girl. Anna has survived all her children and lives at the Florentine Seniors home in Merritt. Their Family was employed by Craigmont mines in its hey day producing the billion pounds of copper it sold to American Mining and Smelting Co and a Japanese customer.

Anna seemed delighted that she shares her birthday with Canada and that they have both lasted so long.

The renovation that is touted to include more washrooms  at the Merritt BC Starbucks is now said to be the 13th of July up from the 1st.

The Starbucks is now serving from a trailer at it same location, off  highway 5 and Voght street.

The overhead shadow changes from were you are on the earth and on the longest day of the year it is slightly more vertical then it was. As north America starts to move from straight up and down to the winter solstice at a 23 degree tilt away from the sun the shadows or midday changes.

You may want to take note of the shadows and enjoy this first weekend after summer solstice while seeking shade.

This is National Indigenous Peoples Day, the first since the government made Indigenous the official name for those that called them self’s Aboriginal, Native, Indian, First Nations Etc.  The day an invitation to all to share one of Canadas days.
Activities are on at the Merritt Rotary park, and the Princess Diana memorial band shell. Music by Randy Chillihitza and Aces in the Hole. Aces in the Hole

Indian day was self proclaimed in 1945,  today is the 22 year of an official observance of the day in some form or other. The day is a stat holiday in the Yukon and NWT.
