Film Review: Tulpan 2009 DVD

This film stars Askhat Kuchinchirekov and Samal Yeslyamova , directed by Sergey Dvortsevoy. Set in the steps of the back of the world a young man returns home from service in the Russian Navy. Tulpan is returning to isolation heritage and lively and charming simple farmers with traditions of great value.

The value of the young man to another family is considered improved after his broadening of experience.  Negotiations begin with neighbors about a union with a daughter and they eventually fail. The culture and richness of the steps is shown with great care and you get the sense of reality and goodness. There is comedy in the clash of culture and aspirations of friend to the western consumer society and its usefulness in the lifestyle of the steps. Falling in love with some of the characterizations is not hard and you will feel much closer to a remote and different value system after seeing the film.

A coming of age and transition in generation is actuated by circumstances with the saving of a stillborn sheep and it significance to the film will give you great joy in discerning.

Restaurant review: A&W Uncle Burger Recipe: Quick Salmon Celery Casserole

Review:  A and W restaurants Uncle Burger. Merritt BC Voght Street location.

Attractive and inviting in the burger wrap at the local A and W franchise this burger is not complicated it provides a lot of meat (5 oz. sirloin ) with lettuce, tomato, onion pickle with   seasoning, ketchup and ,mayonnaise.  The atmosphere in the restaurant is still somehow reminding of the car hop era however the only thing approaching vehicle service is the drive through. Clean and helpful staff gives quick service inside and out. The locals often gather for discussion and politics, this will not interfere with your enjoyment of a brief stop to fill a spot and get some value for money or reinforce your holiday budget by  a reasonable ably priced meal.  Also within sight of the front door is a city park open and well tabled with the Nicola River gurgling by.

Three dollars for the burger to go includes pick-nick tables on the property outside if you have your own water bottle beverage that makes for a real economy.  You may spend another dollar and get cheese and bacon.

For a value that fills a spot, on occasion, A&W Uncle Burger rates: **** Good four stars

Recipe

  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 large can of salmon
  • 1 can celery soup
  • 1/2 can water
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup grated cheese.  Mix all ingredients together in casserole dish. Sprinkle cheese on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
