2019 First Nation language issues.
The number of indigenous people in Canada according to the 2016 census is one million six hundred seventy three thousand, seven hundred eight five. There are 977,230 with a single First Nation identity. Both groups are up around 40 percent since the last reporting. They are rapidly becoming a big part of the makeup of modern Canada. The issue of mother tongues and language is important to them and is at the center of the schools that they are increasingly running. Hence a full year of observance of the issue.
On this Day: July 9th 1755
