Sunday junior hockey…

The Merritt Centennials played to 725 fans in the Nicola valley memorial arena in Merritt tonight.

The team scored twice to the visiting Wiliams Lake team’s 4 recorded goals.

The Centennials hockey team is a part of the KIJHL.

The next game is on the 21st in Kimberly.

The Centennials are facing the Asoyoos team tonight in Merritt and it’s a couple minutes left in the second, and the Centennials are leading 621.

Update

The second period is over and the Centennials are leading seven to one, going into the final period.

The club is having their postponed Icebreaker tomorrow in Merritt. The social event will be a buzz with the record of the young Junior B team.

Post Script

Tonight’s game ended after the 3rd period in an eight to two advantage of the Merritt Centennials team, this was seen by 872 fans which is considerably up from the previous games. It all helps

Merritt Junior A Hockey season ended…

The Salmon Arm Silverbacks ended the advance of the BCJHL Merritt team in the playoffs on Monday with a 3 to 1 victory at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena. Salmon Arm will advance without the need of a seventh game to the next level of play. Editors Note : The final score was 4-1 in the favour of Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The retirement of the Merritt Centennials team also included its 51 year relationship with the BCJHL. The team has joined the KJHL league and is inviting tryouts to its spring camp starting on April 18th.

The Kootenay International Junior A League, commonly known as KIJHL, currently consists of 20 teams. Some of the teams include the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, Creston Valley Thunder Cats, Kimberley Dynamiters, and Nelson Leafs.

The junior hockey team the Merritt Centennials in its 48th year in Merritt is involved in show games now with their first game last Friday. They are competing for the Barnes cup but come December they will have broadcast games on available by a subscription .

The local junior hockey club had 80 hopefuls at their main camp this year. The club was carrying 30 when they had their exhibition game on the 24th in Merritt. The Cents lost 5 to 2 to the Pentiction Vees. The next exhibition contest is in Prince George tonight with the Spruce KIngs.

The local Merritt Junior hockey team is having a Teddy bear toss at their game with the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday the 8th of December 2018.

Be ready at the first goal.

Fans are to be ready to through their bears on the Ice at the first goal.

Start time 7PM

The game starts at the Nicola Valley Memorial arena at 7:PM

Centennials season tickets for the next local BCHL hockey season are on sale now. The local Merritt hockey team had a camp for players on the weekend and are offering early bird season ticket prices until April 30th.
The Merritt hockey team was formed in 1973 and is the oldest franchise in the league.  website

The Nicola Valley Memorial Arena has had ice two weeks, this after noon a pile of snow from the a cleaning shows the activity from a hockey school.
The long time BCJHL hockey team will start its local camp on Monday here. The Merritt Centennials stared with the league here with the 1973-74 season and have made the playoffs more then 30 times since.
The team has its first exhibition game on August 23rd 3 days into camp.

Junior A hockey camp is on in Merritt 44 young men are trying for 22 spots for the 2016/17 season for the Merritt Centennials BCHL hockey team.

The team is the oldest franchise in the league and has may professional players coming from its operations including Ed Beers and Paul Kruse. A pre camp was held in June in Abbotsford inviting 15 – 19 year olds to try out.

The over 4 decades of hockey in Merritt has also produced  serious support including a booster club, media support and a committed fan base .The team didn’t make the playoffs last season.
