White ribbon day is by an act of the Canadian parliament in 1991 to remember to be against violence against women.
The act was a private members bill brought by member Dawn Black for her New Westminster- Burnaby.
The day encourages the wearing of white or purple ribbons and allows for the flying of the national flag at half post.
Although the day is to single out women it should include children and males as well.
On this Day: December 6th 1989
The School of polytech massacre in the Canadian province of Quebec sees Marc Lapine go on a shooting rampage, killing fourteen women and injuring ten more.
