Returning to Merritt:
Source
We understand that residents in Phase 2 and Phase 3 areas are eager for more information about when they will be able to return home.
City of Merritt
The City of Merritt only has one operational well, which is supplying all the water for the entire City of Merritt. Residents of Phase 2 will be able to return home when the City of Merritt can provide clean drinking water and sewage services to this area.
There are three main challenges for the Phase 3 area:
- The water supply needs to be increased, with at least one more functioning well.
- The water pipes need to be flushed and checked for safety.
- The sewage and drinking water distribution systems are tied together throughout the Phase 3 area.
Although there are properties in the Phase 3 area that were not directly affected by flooding, the downstream infrastructure has been heavily damaged, and in some cases destroyed. The City of Merritt is working hard to isolate these systems, repair, run bypasses, or replace them as necessary.
We ask for patience as we work as hard as we can to get them to a position where people can come home as soon as possible.
