The province has a birthday today, happy birthday BC. Oh, its not a holiday, BC day is in August, on the first Monday and its a paid holiday for those that qualify.
BC’s legal paid holidays are:
- New Year’s Day
- Family Day
- Good Friday
- Victoria Day
- Canada Day
- B.C. Day
- Labour Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Remembrance Day
- Christmas Day
Your employer has to give you 8 hrs pay if you have been in his employee for 30 days and worked 15 of the previous 30 days. Salaried employees are not given extra monies for paid holidays however they enjoy the day off.
Employees who work under an averaging agreement or variance at any time in the 30 days before the holiday do not have to meet the 15-day requirement.
Some workers such as agricultural ones are excluded from stat holidays.
Have a good August 6th day off and think of BC in Canada and our official bird the Steller Jay.
On this Day: July 20th 1871
British Columbia becomes a province in the Dominion of Canada.
