The City, Chamber, mainstream press and businesses have cooperated once again to have a Christmas week before and after Black Friday the day that starts the Christmas shopping season. Meaning there is no big observance day per say in the way of an advent to the 25th of December and Christmas celebrations.
The big one is on Friday a evening parade with Santa Claus and midnight madness of the downtown shopping area of Merritt. Coming this Friday there is hot chocolate in the Canadian Country Hall of Fame in the 2000 block of Quilchena avenue during and after the parade as well as other interested offerings of escape and diversion.

Any day this week can find some activity marrying the commercial and the spiritual to the countdown to Christmas 2016.

Schedules are  published in the Merritt Herald
Editors note: Stay out of unmanageable debt as January can be hell…

The co gen plant is having its cladding up and moving to completion.

The plant is quite a presence on the hillside south east of Merritt, lighting gives a pronounced signature. Once cladding is on and it is started up it should have less light pollution as visibility is a safety concern at this time. source.

Geo Cache sites are fun, when getting access to them make, take, care for hazards like wind bringing down limbs or trees. A tree in the open may be sturdier than ones recently exposed to winds. Don’t turn your back on a large tree that has not been maintained.
Tourism organizations may have done more diligence than online remote websites that rely on placing by enthusiasts.

Gold Country’s GeoTourism Program has researched sites of interest throughout the region under a variety of themes & hidden caches for you to find! Learn about each site while unearthing treasures! Use your GPS or letterbox clues to locate each cache, swap some swag, then re-hide the cache. source: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/goldcountry

The site above is called Dumbo 09 and has a visitors log  of 250  since 2012 the latest visit was mid October this year.

Crab apple

The leaves have fallen away from this crab apple tree behind the Merritt Desert Inn, leaving red crab apples. Interestingly there was a black bear destroyed in the tree a few years ago . The bear was drawn by the fruit. The bear would make a great picture now is he was in the tree.

The Nicola Valley Community Theater Society has a project for a 5 million dollar Community theater. The project is 3.2 million dollars in the construction phase and is expected to take 1 year to complete.

The Society procured a hundred thousand dollars to do drawings with an architect in October.  The funding came from a program called Rural Dividend.

It has an annual painting fund-raiser again this fall, novice painters can do a painting under coaching on a canvas with supplied paints for a fee. The event was on the last weekend and was hosted at Brambles Bakery and Espresso ETC in Merritt.

The organization is reporting that the city is now receiving donations for the Societies project.
