Coffee Cups

These cups made in the German Democratic Republic(East Germany) before the change the gold leaf was not in line with the ideal of Communism and may  have been for export to get hard currency maybe to buy wheat. All sorts of things worked for the end of that era including a West German landing his Piper Cub in Red Square and surviving. Kudos to all those that have courage to try things; many are never accoladed but when they attempt things in a non reckless way they are just as deserving as those that succeed .

This is the VIP stop for the press at one of the entrances of the Merritt Mountain Music festival, it has been announced that they will be selling tickets starting next month for another festival. The event next summer will have to overcome a number of negatives including  8 percent unemployment, as it’s not like Walt Disney in the 30s with a new and hopeful media. Lots of luck and its all up to the consumer and where they trust their hard-earned bucks…….

summer enjoyment

This luxury car is in the shade its a convertible, at one time convertibles were banned by the authorities as a safety hazard.  They lifted the ban  and responsible people drive so knowing that the ban was because of crush from overturn. Wearing seat belts may ormay not be   an advantage in every accident involving a convertible .  However on  probabilities they are a safety advantage. The enjoyment reason is obvious. Remember that accidents happen in a moment of time and are irrevocable. The loss can not be undone no matter how many times you watch back to the future.

Flag

The flag is still there. No it’s not the Cumberland River ,it’s the local concrete proprietor who hoisted this flag above the gravel pit they recently reclaimed with some seeding. The flag however placed , more than two decades ago and assaulted , taken and harassed at nite for a long time. The owner prevailed through a process of years. Greasing the pole, making it higher, numbers of trips, and flags. In recent years, there have been few vandalisms  noted and it has become a local fixture. The main man in the story is a man named Henry an person from Scandinavia. Now elderly and retired both him and his wife Clara ( a former city mayor) are noted for both takeing (enterprise) and giving (jobs ,fundraising for skateboard parks, etc) they are less public now and have a comfortable retirement home on the same mountain side that supported the gravel business. Henry is seen to frequent the Middlesbrough Pub for light refreshments and lunchs. The pub occupies the same hillside and a couple of miles down. Now thats building a convient life through hard work and perseverance .We hope they both enjoy their golden years that they deserve. And is not always the result of efforts in the old world; where in part they and we come.
