Cabin Lake

Sixteen degrees here in Merritt at this time. A very temperate and enjoyable summer with weather that is just really good for us.

A neighbour of mine took his all terrian buggy /boat into cabin lake yesterday said there is still snow there. Cabin lake is on Styoma mountain and close to were we can see visible snow a from a vantage point here in town.  The lake is very beautiful and accessible by rugged four-wheel drive vehicle. grizzly bears are reported in the area.

Continuous insurance

A Harley motorcycle owner from Saskatchewan was displaying a plate that had a “continuous” expiration date on its plate. When asked he said it is new and if you register for direct payment with your bank account you can display that on your plate. He was happy with that and speculated that they would look you up if there was NSF at renewal time.

Merritt Mountain Music Festival

Lots of class entertainers, and for those that were there a good experience. A consensus of those polled saw a favorable enjoyable weekend with some big stars. Local bars did well thursday and friday, but fewer people were in town because of  the fact there were no shuttle buses running.

Was it was profitable? That will come to be told ; you would think they would have a plan to rebuild  over a multi-year term.

Country Music Hall of Fame was officially opened last night ;again , this time I talked to Jack Madrigas a former director for the Museum the city runs for years and he offered a tour. He is a new volunteer with the CMHF.

The hall of fame occupies the old Armstrong’s Department store that was nicely renovated for it. the store goes back to before World War One and The business person whose name it bears is a protagonist in a play being presented in late July for the City’s Centenary.

A number of displays of artifacts and plaques of inductees are displayed.

The hall of fame compliments the street mall downtown this week.

A local paper is reporting that the group got about ten thousand dollars for a grand official opening in 2012, got love those openings.

Bus tours

There are numbers of bus tours that come through here. With seven highways and we as a hub many destination tours use Merritt as a stop. A local Korean Sushi restaurant can get 4 a day of Asian nationals stopping for the cuisine. The divided highways and ascetics make for a pleasant and scenic route weather driving or riding.

Motorcycles like the less used and more challenging routes to communities such as Princeton and Spence’s bridge and the Fraser canyon route to Vancouver.

Any mode chosen this time of the year makes for glorious trips to and fro in the South Central Interior of British Columbia.

Ehrhoff and Rome an opinion

It was good to see the two hockey players back in the game last evening. The win at the last moment was thrilling.

There was an evangelical calling for the end of the world to end on May 21, one day after the follow up of the legally required census here in Canada. When Ronald Regan was elected in 1980 the fringe said  that he was doomed as all presidents elected in a zero year have died in office. A similar dynamic to date pickers for the return of the good lord. Any serious theologian realizes that the imminent return of the lord is just that, imminent and made to remain that way for compliance to human rights and conditions by those that would abuse those things.

You can still meet your maker at any time crossing the street or in your bathtub slip and fall. However when Christian Ehrhoff and Aron Rome where taken out of the Canucks line up in the Western final,  I quipped about them being raptured out to make way for Armageddon and that must be the Stanley cup final.

We can have fun with that, it was just a coincidence ,however Revenue Canada is and the bankruptcy people are fond of using 666 and 007 in there scrutiny of assets. And the census date was a bit of a stretch.

Remember World War One was touted as being that war to end all wars by reasonable people. and things can easily get out of hand in the superstition realm. However they are back and playing well and the poetic remains as well as the former Governor General,  Lord Stanley, the initiator of the NHL’s prized cup with his name on it”s admonition .:” That it be enjoyed by all colors, creeds and customs for all time” as he dedicated another work the 1000 acres of park in the  City of Vancouver.   We can assume the same sentiment apples.

Superstition exists and it is a binding thing not helpful in the enjoyment of life, it has no place in hockey or work life as it is fear based. That is  something the charter of rights and freedoms restrains credible entities such as government from employing. No you didn’t do anything wrong to cause a loss unless it relates directly to the ability to perform ,like negligence of a duty that people rely on.

Improve your luck, look both ways crossing the street to Rogers Arena, and cheer the team on  giving emotional support to a team that is less dependant on it then preceding ones , they are champions.

The 7 game contests in  the finals is enough of an exposure to degrade to the mean all of the random inputs and luck to the standard of the skill in the teams. The Stanley cup is up for its 95th awarding since it went pro in 1914/15. It was not awarded in 1919 because of the spanish flu and 2005  because of a players lockout dispute, that was unlucky, however it has degraded to the mean  of being a much wanted symbol of hockey excellence;over time….

Christ ascends to heaven to make way for  his office to be taken by The Holy Spirit on earth.

Sources say that the Walk of stars gala gave resulted in an official designation of Merritt being the CMC of C. Something that was being gradually asserted over the past few years.

The 8th annual gala was this weekend and a fan from Oliver told me he has never missed one. The one  hundred dollars a plate dinner Saturday night was graced by Patricia Conway, billed as a Canadian Legend. A number of weekend events were billed as being attended by such as Casey Clarke-CMT Host , Tara Oram-Canadian Idol, Jim Byrnes and others in celebrity golf ,cutting horse events, night clubbing and tour of the town.

A good weekend for photography.

This area in the south central part of British Columbia has a lot to offer campers one of the local chamber themes still regarded was a lake a day as long as you stay. There are two RV parks in town one accommodates 44 RVs and some tenting.Fully serviced with showers and services, including golf discounts.. The other is competitive.

The manager of the one on Voght street says that the May long-weekend they are not full usually as people go to local lakes and are free of traffic and enjoy space with fewer people. The forestry maintains campsites at some lakes and there are commercial parks at some as well. The province keeps one public access road into all lakes for public enjoyment. Fishing is regulated and licenses required however there is a holiday on Fathers day from licensing each year to this point.

Close all gates that you find closed and you should not come into trouble with the ranching community.Watch for infectious weed warnings and the price of your big mac is safe.Take all garbage out or use provided cans and you will be a class one responsible camper….

Camp fires have been regulated down to smaller sizes and some preparation required. Here is another source:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/06/24/bc-smaller-campfire-rules.html

The tourist information center at the highway connector exchange has a forestry maintained hiking trail directly behind the site , I tried it, it is enjoyable as well as a good photo-op for the Nicola Valley. Wood tick season is now over according to sources. There is also an info center downtown on Voght with as free picnic area.

Canucks

The team won the quarter finals over their nemesis the Chicago Black Hawks .Witnessed in one watering hole were small groups of fans pretending to be Chicago fans as not to jinx their team. No word on any lucky fans….

Vancouver and Chicago have enjoyed tremendous back and forth hockey for decades and it is interesting to see the last years Stanley cup winners out of contention and Vancouver in so early in the playoffs. Two more rounds then the final .

Update one of the random inputs skillfully employed is that they were selling  tickets to the opening game in Nashville before Vancouver won the last game and with it home team advantage (first and last game). The tickets were TBA on date and the  game is now tonight in Vancouver’s Rogers Place starting at 6 PM PST.

Vancouver plays the Preditors from Nashville next.    First game Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Date: TBA

editors note: Hockey is a game of skill  with a lot of random actions and inputs , causing wins and losses that some people conciliate as luck. There is often a degradation to the mean that is the quality , training and record of the individual players and team.
