Frank Ritcey is the Provincial Coordinator for WildSafeBC, based in Kamloops. In this presentation he will focus on the public perception of charismatic mega-fauna vs. bugs and snakes, and the challenges in trying to promote the preservation of some of the ‘lower’ creatures on the public’s list of what is important. Expect some pretty cool videos of both the charismatic mega-fauna and some of Frank’s favourite “less desirable” species. Frank was raised in the wilds of Wells Gray Park by his pioneering mother, Clara Ritcey, and Park Biologist father Ralph Ritcey. His love of nature has been with him his whole life and he still spends much time filming and studying nature. Frank often contributes to CBC’s popular North by Northwest show.

Logging is going here and someone will be supplying lumber for the billions of dollars of hurricane destruction in the US. It almost makes it worth it to cancel Saudi arms sales.
Is there a spiraling curve to 5 degrees to pre-industrial age temperatures, should we dust our caves. This bunch makes no representations on these things however they are offering an educational forum on water hydrology and how it works.

The Federal Appeals Court of Canada was created in July of 2003. It has three notable decisions”
In April 2014, the court ruled in favour of the Métis people in a case involving extending protections to Aboriginal peoples in Canada who lived off-reserve.[3]
In September 2015, the court dismissed an appeal by the Government of Canada over a ruling by the Federal Court that found a rule banning the Niqāb at citizenship ceremonies to be unconstitutional.[4]
In August 2018, the court rejected the expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline on the basis that the National Energy Board’s (NEB) process and findings were “so flawed that the Governor in Council could not reasonably rely on the Board’s report”[5] and that “the Government of Canada failed to fulfill the legal duty to consult Indigenous peoples”[5 Source Wikipedia
Kudos to the people that organized the 16 lawsuits that were heard over the indigenous rights concern. Organization is a huge thing and very effective just look at all the times that nations have tried to dominate the world and the organization it took to set those efforts aside. However lets not lose in the wash a concept and reality that we enjoy or have the right to enjoy, free and with out fetered access to the sea, rivers and the land between the high water mark and lots public access As well the right and ability to chose a moderate lifestyle over a competitive, controlling, dominating one. This in an idealistic sense viewed as equality of the person.
Even plastics in the sea may seem a simplistic issue to deal with however if it comes to a change that limits and gives over rights to the rich and dominate it would be a horrific loss.
When push comes to shove the money and unction that saw the appeals brought by the first nations groups come from government with the hammer of the Indian Acts shadow pushing.
In a funny irony you may wish to save your plastic straws for a day when the process to give jurisdiction to beach’s and river banks makes an authority that will take access to the sea coast from you. If we all dumped our straws in the river at once then we could all go to jail at once; that you could say is organization.
Legal experts say the First Nations cases have real implications that should not be overlooked or forgotten. Vancouver Sun
So did fast ferries have implications when wakes affected beaches of the rich. Perhaps zoning is the answer to these questions. Have areas for the enjoyment of moderate living people and nice places for the connected and elite. The boundaries could be defined by plastic straws.
How could the NEB have a report that ” could not be relied on”. What is up? Are we getting ready to eat our children?

Interpol is formed.
PS: I think this had to be said, here’s a shove though, who wants their name linked to an environmental calamity. Even if its just that Vancouver bear reasonable risk ,who wants to sign off on that risk, maybe an emaciated 3rd world economic refuge! Will he run. Or a nameless elite organization that will take his right to drown on a beach in Peace.
On thing sure, everyone will want to sign when the Canadian dollar is 50 cents US and the price of modern tankers are out of reach. PP

Contrary to some claims, NAFTA does not commit Canada to exporting a certain share of its energy supply to the United States regardless of Canadian needs. Canadian producers sell without restriction on the open market.
The only significant limitation NAFTA places on Canada is that it prevents the Canadian government from implementing policies that interfere with the normal functioning of energy markets in North America. Provided they have the demand and can pay the price, Canadian consumers could conceivably buy 100% of all energy produced in the country without violating NAFTA. Source Parliament of Canada. The time of day when sunshine enlivens flowers is fast approaching its annual end. The full moon in September ( a full Corn Moon ) : Farmers almanac, is on September 24th 2018. If we are lucky here at 600 meters+ we may not see a killing frost until then giving a huge season instead. However we have to get through the full moon and its whiles August 26th this weekend, the moon is called a Sturgeon Moon and is in a forecast cool and wet time. The Sturgeon moon is named for the large amount of fish in lakes where the Algonquin fished.
The Baillie House in Merritt has a sitting garden with flowers and convenience. It s operated by the local Heritage Society and welcomes you as the Cities Down Town Tourist Info center. Enjoy the flowers…
The stars seem to be aligning more for the electric vehicle; at least here in the Nicola Valley. Far from economies of scale there is an obvious up tic in charging station use, meaning that owners are relying more on them for distance travel. The greatest use in our view for the EV is the small capacity 85KM range run about, go to work, and town urban application. Not requiring quick chargers. However there are some interesting things coming down the pike.
The year 2025 is the planned start-up of a cold fusion generation system. And the completion of a recently launched solar probe in its 7 year mission is about that time.
A magnetic field is to contain the fusion sparking temperatures that will see hydrogen turned into helium and Einstein’s pride, energy. All life on earth is carbon based and that means old star particles that came from suns that went through their hydrogen and stated burning helium making carbon. The data from the solar probe will be interesting in its composition and if its statements about cold fusion on earth contained in magnetic fields how it might will fly.
The hope that cold fusion will work seems more compelling this summer fire season, once again it is a promise of inexhaustible of cheap power without social cost.
Then my friend the EV may be even more to the point.

Clean gas clean gas pump, and some of the tax comes back to your local government File Photo KDG
There is a transfer payment from the gas tax collected by the federal government the Feds just made another instalment of 53 million to be divided amongst the municipal governments in BC.
Merritt BC has been getting something over 300 thousand dollars per year for the last 3 years and is projected to get the same this year. Money is used for local projects including disaster relief. The fund is touted as being predictable and is set to run from 2014- 2024.
Like the saying just because red wine is good for you that’s no reason to start drinking so the gas transfer tax is no reason to start burning more gas …

The local fields are being harvested this week File Photo KDG
The bottom land in the Nicola Valley is used for hay production this week big round bales are seen from the highways. sunny and hot weather are making for good conditions for its production and harvest . However it may be a race for second and third crops against bans on irrigation because of drought conditions. The government drought board on Voght street was recently moved to yellow or dry from normal conditions .
The restrictions were put on the last week in August last year however local ranchers conserve long before the level 4 status kicks in and don’t attribute it to global warming but a cost of raising food, that they are used to. fish are effected by warmer lower water levels as well:
Drought conditions can affect communities and individuals in many different ways. Drought can lead to reduced water availability for household and business use. Lower streamflows may cause warmer river temperatures, affecting fish and other aquatic life. Low streamflows can also have an impact on groundwater levels.
Drought can reduce crop growth and quality, leading to smaller harvests. Hotter temperatures that often occur alongside drought may lead to early crop maturity or ripening. Less water may be available for irrigation and for animal care, and livestock production suffers and pests increase.
The Ministry of Agriculture provides advice and drought management tools to farmers and ranchers who may be affected by drought and/or loss of water. water temperature
