Library pencil drawings

There are 5 pencil drawings by local Howard Baker in the newspaper area at the public library on Garcia Street. The 2012 works are of old derelict buildings in the area. On September 15th 2013 there is a token prize drawing .To get in to the draw  you have to identify the buildings.

Howard Baker is a retired teacher.

The library has a list names you need to match them.

Howard Baker  was a much appreciated part of the 100 year anniversary celebration of Merritt. In particular the play that dramatised a part of the local history, in particular characters about the historic Douglas lake cattle company. Howard wa s much involved in the stage dynamics for the play written bu local college librarian JIm Bruce.

Merritt has an interesting history short in the scheme of the world dynamic in the sence of a small population living in the tension of at least two empires. And trying to stay current with a big world.

Out of province, country, medical ; we have a reminder from a source that ambulance is not covered in other provinces  by the medical services plan.  When traveling always be sure of coverage as treatment may not be forth coming without payment arrangements.

Plans like Blue Cross in Alberta can give you security from ambulance bills of thousands of dollars. You may have something from your employer in the form of extended health.

This is not a solicitation ,it is a newsworthy item.

There is serious rain here to-day. That is serious to us. In the 1960s we had less than 10 inches a year. Semi desert. In recent years we have 12 . Still we are part of the Great Eastern Desert Basin, it includes south central BC and eastern Washington State.

Two nights ago we had strong winds always a sign that coastal weather is on its way up. The local police station is under going roof repairs with new sheeting being applied over fading colored metal sheathing.

Editors note:We have no idea the feeling and sence of the east coast after Sandy. But have confidence in the citizens and  applaud the decision of the marathon to run and help at the same time.

We feel that unless a piece of plywood is neglected and blows off the police station we are in little danger from the elements.  ( thats on the balance of probabilities )
