Happy National Pharmacy Technician Day…

Today is National Pharmacy Technician Day, since 2015 the third Tuesday of the month is NPTD ” we thank technicians for their tireless efforts.”

  1. Buy a gift only we could tip pharmacy techs! Failing that, a teddy bear, balloon, box of chocolates, or a nice flower to brighten up their workplace (artificial, so as to keep things clean) is sure to light up their day.
  2. Get a flu shot, National Pharmacy Techs Day happens to land right in the run-up to flu season, and most pharmacies offer flu shots. Seeing your pharmacy tech for a flu shot now is a great way to ensure you don’t have to see them under less happy circumstances later.
  3. Just say “thanks”! Pharmacies can have hundreds of people in and out in a single day, and most of those customers aren’t there to socialize. Simply taking the time to tell a pharmacy tech you appreciate them can make a pharm tech’s day.

Wildfires

The 2021 wild fire season was about the same as previous seasons, however the fires were much more aggressive.

Just south of 900,000 hectares burned. There were 300 fires at one time most of the summer with 67 of them fires of note. Dry fuel conditions may have contributed to a more exciting fire season then was realized. Over 1600 wildfires designated over the summer made up the active and most notable part of the fire season, The fire season will officially end March 31st 2022, the last day of the provinces fiscal year.

There were 304 evacuation alerts, 181 evacuations.. More than 4000 people worked on fires throughout the province of British Columbia. The fire season of 2021 also had over a hundred wildfire fighters from Mexico join the fight.

The the determining factor in the severity of a fire season is the loss of human life and property. The town of Lytton BC was 90% destroyed by a fire that purportedly came up the natural draft that the Fraser river valley provided. Two people lost their lives in a hasty evacuation that was called on in a matter of minutes notice. As of October 14th 2021 the notion that a CPR train started the fire was debunked by the RCMP on investigation.

The town of Lytton did break a Canadian heat record just before the fire started. During 50° c temperatures at the top of a inverting heat dome the fire that destroyed Lytton somehow was incubated.

The BC state of emergency lasted 56 days, ending on on September 14th 2021.There was 565 million dollars spent in this time frame.

Cooler weather and rain was the determining factor in the success of the fire suppression. Large forest fires often produce weather and rain by its submission of particulate into the atmosphere as it reacts with water vapor evaporated from the hot dry conditions previous to the fire. Human presence and property does not allow this dynamic to be fully exploited in our modern era.

A flu season is expected

While seasonal influenza (flu) viruses are detected year-round in the United States, flu viruses are most common during the fall and winter. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons varies, but influenza activity often begins to increase in October. Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although significant activity can last as late as May.

Trans Mountain Feature update…

Media tour from 2018 Burnaby Terminal Expansion plans highlighted.

The Trans Mountain expansion is on going and the Burnaby tanker port will be expanded. with tanker loads going from five a month to about 34.

Panamax Tanker in service.

The Trans Mountain oil is taken with a Panamax tanker, meaning as the name implys the ocean going ship is for operation through the panama canal.

Panamax Tankers: The panamax tankers operate in the region of Panama, especially the Panama Canal. The tanker size is designed as per the size regulations set by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP). The size aspect is very important when it comes to panamax tankers because if the size is not monitored while the tanker is being constructed, then it could pose a lot of problems while the ship is in motion. The operation of the first panamax tanker started in the year 1914 and they are still popular and useful as they were nine decades ago.

Nasa live, ISS may get a Visitor Sunday…

Hey another private supply mission was scrubbed over weather on Saturday. The 5000 lb pay load will have a window for another try after 3 am EST Sunday the 29th. So it may show up and be docked with another Musk Falcon rocket already docked at the ISS around breakfast time. Any how here is a you tube live view from NASA to enjoy what ever activity is their on Sunday. Regards

Private corporations for space…

The unlimited budget and hundred’s of thousands of workers from the cold war space race is passed and Nasa is developing private contactors for some of its more routine work. Sunday will see another window for a SpaceX corporation Falcon 9 cargo rocket to launch a mission to the ISS.

Three contenders in the US.

Leading the pack of contract hopeful is Elon Musk and his Spacex corporation. ( noted for putting one of his EV cars into orbit) with a man playing the radio in the drivers seat. Sir Richard Branson with Virgin Galactic, is next, then Jeff Bezos of Paypal fame, another billionaire with the itch for space tourism

China, Russia Israel and many other countries are reaching for the stars, They are mostly driven by a need to experience and learn, something that stokes the public interest. Good luck.

Billion Dollar lead..

Jeff Bezos has the most money in the world $194,000,000,000, he eclipses Elon musk by 1 billion.

Covid-19 BC

One hundred and twelve new cases.

BC had 112 new cases on Friday with a weekly average of 89. The daily average is approaching one hundred is significant:

The Merritt BC vaccination facility has moved to a smaller complex, that is the Memorial arena to the smaller civic center. With billions of people in the world not yet vaccinated and the border being opened on August 9th to the US, it is closing in on Vaccination availability.

Issue dropping from first of mind in Canada.

Perhaps Covid-19 will be not be top of mind soon and will go from pandemic to endemic status, so safety may not be out front however unvaccinated people can still pick up a debilitating case of the disease.

Forth serious outbreak of a strain coming from Asia.

From Covid -19 to Sar’s there has been four strains of serious virus driven disease coming from the east in recent history. It should be a priority to address this in respect to world travel and safety as variants are dangerous.

If an election is coming then please do not favor any use of public health in this specific case as a credit to the advertising sponsor. We are all in this together.

The commercialization of space has been a process that mirrored some of the disasters of the governments attempts to get into space for national defense purposes. This utilitarian outreach is something to be considered ,as it is still a pipe dream in some sense .

Good luck!
