Response review: NVFS showing: Fifty Dead men walking:
A 2008 film about the trouble in Northern Ireland’s Past History
A young Irish Catholic in a troubled area of Northern Ireland is recruited to be an informant against his own and to save lives. He is eventually credited for the saving of fifty Officials, Police and Prison Guards, this at the cost of his ability to see his family and to live out of hiding when he was found out.
The imagery is very dramatic and realistic leaving the impression that the people were the real thing and not actors.Violent and bloody , a very intense film. The film is useful for as a deterrent to less broadened people ;to appreciate their own peace and security.
We believe in is in no way puffed for effect, as news reports and media affirmed such dealings over the 38 years that the British Army tried to manage the hate of two private army’s at odds there.
Trapped, and circumstances have determined the outcome of many lives. Our freedom, choices and prosperity is to be lauded as we are much more able to determine ourselves.
Constant surveillance, mistrust, random searches and violent enemies are a lifestyle that only the vengeful and hateful would endure, and those that have no choice. This film is an epiphany of trouble, a nightmare for those that lived it and a benchmark for the generation now coming up that have enjoyed peace the last several years.
The protagonist if you could call this real story a plot driven rendition, is still living in hiding estranged from his son and shack up wife; a reluctant hero for the lives he saved.
The better than the rest lifestyle that eventually gave him away to the IRA Security mitigates his hero status and brings it back to the status of ” I did what I had to” the lot of many in the troubled world and the virtue of our own.
