5 million dollars

There is a meeting coming up for a society that plans on raising a lot of money for a movie house.  Five million dollars is the top of the thermometer that is posted on the sold sign at the site. With the red marker now covering  from zero dollars to 300 thousand.

The not for profit society is not required to have a business plan that shows a profit but needs to have its articles of purpose prove a social good that they intent to fill as a group.

The contacts for the meeting are listed as Dorothy Molnar and Dana Egan, both are downtown business people one the proprietor of The Grand hotel the other a principle with the Brambles bakery on Quilchena avenue.

The plans show pictures of vintage movie houses with multiple showing venues something that may be considered archaic but in the realm of  historical interest. The cost of architects is about 150 thousand and is displayed in the in the red raised marker on the fundraising thermometer at the site.

The group has the support of two city councilors, Clara Norgaard and Kurt Christopherson.

The meeting is December 3rd at 5 PM at Brambles bakery, the group is called Merritt Community Cinema Society

Chevy volt

On the weekend it was noted by us that a Chevy volt was at the free recharge station at the city hall in Merritt. This is the first one of that GM line that we have noticed here using the Facility. In an interview with the local GM dealer  last year they had said that they were not going to handle the volt here as the licensing and training were prohibitive for this market.

There are no electric cars on the sales lot at the GM dealer here in Merritt however they have information on them.

CF100

There is an airplane at the Princeton Airstrip about 100 kilometers from us in Merritt. It is a CF100 starfighter from the 1950s  it saw service in the Korean conflict.  The plane had the nickname ” the lead sled “.  It is up on a pedestal and bears the number 420.

The United States made a number of these aircraft available to Canada after it canceled it s own Avro Arrow program.

A local was noted for flying his over his home town of Merritt and braking the sound barrier as a hello to his fellows.

Diagrams and paintings of the Avro Arrow craft show up at antique outlets from time to time here. The company  A.V. roe was organized in Canada in 1945. Its links to  the UK and successes such as the Lancaster bomber the B25 Mitchell  made for a considerable fondness for the old world and its way of doing things.

Princeton BC Canada is a colorful resource town on the Similkameen River and a historic haunt of the Train Robber Bill Miner at the beginning of the 20th century.

It hosts Racing Days ( 45 years of horse racing this year) at the end of July and is in close to the Cascade Mountain range.
