It’s good that it is friday….

The Nicola naturalists had their presentation last night and  DR Kerridge told all about bats. He dispelled some beliefs in particular, bats are not blind but prefer sonar for hunting. He kept bats and said they were expensive to keep as he had to buy expensive meal worms and toss them up toward the ceiling.

Some species of bats have been clocked at 90 km an hour.

About 60 people enjoyed the presentations including the local preamble, of slides and stats. the christmas bird count was related of interest were the 13 Great Blue Herons counted.

Some cormets and humming birds were also of interest.

So long to treasure island

We played a computer game with interest since 2010. Treasure Island a Zynga game off Facebook. The game gave us an international contact to adventure lovers and the mystic of the Caribbean. Lost Mayan culture was part of the theme.

Twice we bought some game cards and never spent any money beside that. In the 2 years of playing we came some short of a million points and had contact with distant relations and friends.

Starting with one hundred energy per day we were approaching 1000 as of closure day on the 5th of December.

The game is closed as of the 5th however the Facebook host remains with other games in a similar style. The Mayan calender has run out on TI but not the rest of an increasingly linked world.

Treasure Island **** good

There was a fire at the local Ramada Inn this week and a person at the scene said that it was electrical and that a contractor was at work at the time of the fire.

The Dominos Pizza is out of commission as well, no idea on a dollar value, and the papers say it is still under investigation.

Bears

I took a picture of a pile of bear scat on the sidewalk behind the local A and W off Voght street yesterday Am. the Scat was full of mountain ash berries something not that attractive a meal to bears there are crab apples a block away. A rather large pile, meaning a large bear.

A model bear and long term celebritybear of whistler was shot yesterday because of; as with all bears was too adjusted to humans which can be an eventual tragedy as bears have conditioned actions sometimes called instincts that can  be activated by humans and when the way the humans always lose. A bear can travel  very fast  when they decide to come after something and people have little chance of escaping without some bad results.

It’s very pleasant outside now in the mid teens and overcast. The forecast for the next few days is  for the same and the long weekend is being called for as sunny. Summer is on its way out once again and people will be looking forward to the handle of another winter in their age. September and October can be glorious around here. With Irene dissipated on the east coast we can hope for a year of relief from catastrophic weather damage we hope .Remember the season for hurricanes goes well into November .

Posted a duck picture on the Consumer Protection Society of British Columbia’s Facebook page, you need to have a Facebook page to vote you can vote everyday till September 23. The recent referendum gives me pause to think and consider the dynamics of Facebook voting will it come to that for ballots…..

Vote for Nicola River Duck, at http://www.facebook.com/ConsumerProtectionBC?ref=ts#!/ConsumerProtectionBC?sk=app_100240610079120 by Kevin Griffiths vote daily as many times as you wish till Sept 23. It has nothing to do with hurricane season unless it’s keeping you from the gulf…..
