Convenient Food Preservation Methods

There are several convenient methods for preserving food, including:

  1. Refrigeration: Keeping perishable food items in the refrigerator to slow down spoilage.
  2. Freezing: Storing food at 0°F (-18°C) or below to stop the growth of microorganisms.
  3. Canning: Using heat to create a vacuum seal in jars to prevent the growth of bacteria.
  4. Drying: Removing moisture from food to inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold.
  5. Pickling: Submerging food in an acidic solution such as vinegar to prevent spoilage.

Food Safety

To ensure food safety during preservation, it’s important to follow these guidelines:

  • Use clean and sanitized containers and utensils.
  • Maintain proper storage temperatures for refrigeration and freezing.
  • Follow tested recipes and methods for canning and pickling to avoid foodborne illnesses.
  • Regularly inspect preserved foods for signs of spoilage, such as mold growth or off-odors.
  • Label preserved items with the date of preservation to track their freshness.

By following these methods and guidelines, you can safely preserve a variety of foods for future consumption.

Water that is microwaved

The public library is having an open experiment. There are three plants on the counter and they are all treated the same except one is being watered with water that was microwaved. The plants are in their fourth week of the experiment today and they seem about the same all green and lively. The study is a double controlled and blind and is   to prove a thesis that microwaved water hurts plants.

The Study runs for 2 months.

You can view the experiment  at 1691 Garcia Street on the counter to the right as you come in the door.

Editors:  humorous note: if you talk to the plants talk to them all not just one.
