The Moon will be full again on the 18th of August at 11:26:36 AM Central European Time, or 2:26;36 AM Pacific Standard Time. here is a thought from our moon source if you are out standing watching the sky.

We humans have mostly a distorted perception of large numbers. Let’s create a little scenario: imagine, one would take the entire Earth’s population of 7.4 billion people and bring them to Japan, to distribute them evenly. All people in the world in this one country! How many people would be standing on 1 square meter (approx. 11 square feet) in Japan? Take a guess … you immediately would think of masses of people, of the confinement, of people standing shoulder to shoulder … far from it! Every single person would have around 51 square meters (approx. 549 square feet) of space for themselves and the rest of the globe would be deserted …Source Full Moon Info.

A small apartment still possible for everyone to move to Japan. I guess the story that nation started the second world war for fill from artillery shells is exaggerated as well.

Any way there is a chance on the 18th for lovers in all places to enjoy a moment in the moon light on the 18th.

The Nicola Valley Ranch Rodeo, the other rodeo is being advertised for the 27th of August at the Rodeo grounds south of Merritt.  Merritt has had a labour day weekend rodeo for 58 years including the one coming up on the 3rd and 4th of September.

Merritt area has had many small rodeos  at ranch’s and reserves over time. there was once a suicide run on a very step hill at the Upper Nicola Bands Douglas Lake reserve. It was discontinued because  of injury and the possibility of cruelty to horses.

The rodeo bunch are civilized here now however an event can still become tragic if not properly managed. Merritt has produced clowns to manage bulls in riding events.

People like Bob Barker from the price is right have been instrumental in making change to attitudes that may effect stock and the way people perceive responsibility to them. Hollywood has also softened toward the use of livestock in movies. We invite the public to take an interest in the Nicola Valleys animals husbandry and attitudes that actions generate.

The rocking river music festival is on this weekend with president and performer Ken Hess with the eight ball. The festival is at the former Merritt Mountain Festival grounds.

There are some new glass cases at the Canadian Country Hall of Fame on Quilchena Avenue, downtown Merritt; they include clothing from some lessor known artists from eastern Canada, as  well as famous ones.

The availability of tickets have never been a problem in the past for any event.\, held at the grounds in Merritt. Local volunteers are being used at the site including Chamber of Commerce ones.

A pop up store organized by 5 local artists is also at the CCMH of Fame.

A leash for dogs gives comfort and safety for your pet and the persons out walking or going about their business.
Merritt BC has an off leash park for dogs to run and frolic. The park is located behind the city recycle, near the open space of Voght park. There are paved walking trails that can be picked up and at a number of locations in town they go by the park and along the Nicola river. The river is expressly beautiful at this time of year with sand bars and some deep clean pools.
Bags are available at the transition points of the walking trails for picking up after your pet, and there is parking at the off lease park for some cars.
There is also a bike park available off the walking trail as it comes out of central park by the RCMP station.

Trail maps are available for free at the downtown tourist info center at 2202 Voght street across from city hall.

The city had a crew at Voght park this morning, they were running a jackhammer and breaking up some pieces of concrete that had been used as a makeshift barrier to a lane coming from the east. The concrete in two pieces about 4 meters long and something over a meter thick were very hard and full of rebar and were the remains of a public swimming pool that was enjoyed by many kids decades ago.
Curtis a neighbour said that the pieces left were wreaked 50 years ago and then the pieces were put into service as a barrier. There have been two public pools since then and both were heated that one was not. The hot summer sun of the 1960s here made the small pool look very inviting and the stimulation from the cold water put in it was pronounced.

The City would have had a population of about 3000 at that time and Fran Brownfield the teen aged guard would have know all the kids personally.
Voght park was named for the founder of Merritt, and in the early 20th century had all the amenities.

Thanks to the founders and those that added after for the joy of that open pool and Rest in Peace to the remains of that structure.

The Summer students have been busy setting up a tent at the downtown tourist info center ( Nicola Valley Heritage Society). When asked what it was for they replied that they were having a Christmas in July event on the coming weekend.
Fred at the house says they will be offering Christmas decorations and anything associated with Christmas for sale in the yard and the 2202 Voght street building, as well as books. The historical society operates on revenue from the house as well as donations.
The Baillie property is a City of Merritt Property and invites people to enjoy the common garden and historical house under the shade of maple trees.
Happy Holidays.

The 138 KV power line is in to the new wood waste generator, coming down Voght Street from the new upgraded substation behind the court house it goes across Central Park’s western boundary with the gated community known as Sherwood park ( after the developer Ron Sherwood a long time city councilor that developed it and is now retired to Victoria.). It crosses the highway up the hill from Norgaards Ready Mix,after coming across the Nicola Valley Golf and Country Clubs fairway. Down the hill and past the Osprey nest on the highway 8 entrance to town, where it continues across the then Nicola River to twin steel poles leading across the old John Collet Ranch/ Jon Peachy Buffalo Ranch. Onward to cross the Midday Valley Road to the 40 Mega Watt plant, still under construction.
The highlight of the line were the ropes left strung, for some weeks from the pole that supports the Osprey nest to a pole across the Nicola River. It was taunting to see the Osprey return then build a new nest on the cleared off platform while attached by ropes to the power line. The Hydro crews eventually came and placed a new pole 10 feet away from the nest and towering 15 feet above it.
The activity did not seem to put any stress on the birds who still continue their normal fishing and mating activity.( it will be interesting to watch when the line is energized although the birds will make nests on the top of regular power poles with seeming immunity to any kind of harm.) There are about a half dozen of the birds in area) ,only a single pair occupy the nest.
