Halloween came and went last evening we had aHalloweenbout 20 people in the center of town and we noticed lots of cars taking kids to homes of people they  knew and trusted.

The local library has gotten a dozen new soft and comfortable chairs. The black swivel global comfort series Obus chairs came with a Fabrique Au Canada or Made in Canada tag attached .

They have been placed at the computer stations in the Library. The original Computers were a gift from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and were replaced after years of grateful use.

Something new is a treat go to the library and email your buds this weekend on a new comfort chair.

5000 dollar advantage

According to the BC Hydro newsletter the program that rebates 5000 dollars on the purchase of a clean energy vehicle is extended. As well a rebate to install a quicker charger at your home then the 120 volt charger that is readily available is extended as well. the news letter is available at the link below.

There are plans for up to 600 public charging stations across BC by 2016 with 41 in place or planned now.

Editors note; it’s not clear whether 30 minute quick chargers at commercial operations are subject to rebates, we would think that those operations would start to feel a demand for them and since publicly advertised operations are subject to more scrutiny for safety that they may come under a regulation regime.

There are 4/ 2 hour quick chargers here in Merritt BC at unadvertised locations however they can be on smart phone apps.

Self checker

The local Thompson Nicola District Library, self checker has been being used for a matter of weeks and is expanded into the general collection from the function of signing out holds. When asked a confirmed source said that there are no plans for signing items in on the machine.

We used the equipment and it works well and it frees library staff to spend more time with people that need more help.

Self checkers are used in some grocery stores but not any in the community of Merritt.

Opinion:

Electronics are every where.  We wonder when the market will have respite from them in some sort of sanctuary. Or free zone. A connected world is certainly a different  world.

Pit house

House of honour, the local high school and district 58 have opened a construction project of a pit house. A provincial park here has some excavations  at Nicola lake that were once used as winter homes by first nations people’s. The concret impression serves to be a historical reminder and seconds as a stand alone classroom. Thats creative as some jurisdictions are struggling with portables.
