Demonstrations and Rioting

Opinion:

The right to peaceful assembly and protest is a necessary thing to a grassroots governed society. No one guarantees the right to riot and loot. Should the rioters in London and Vancouver be charged , in our view unless you are inciting or conspiring  now which is criminal then you should be allowed once.

The record of interviews and photos should be used to show and intervene the next time. We hope that the people who build credibility for there causes by peaceful and firm civil action carried out by such as King  and Gandi will be remembered as relevent now.

The Pope declares that Magna Carta is invalid

Nicola Valley Community Roundtable

This group organized a couple of decades ago , a think tank and discussion forum for issues like water licences and range issues , A former Chair Laurie  Guichon  got a Grasslands interpretative site named after him on Hamilton hill on the way to Lundbom Lake. This was post humus as he died in a motorcycle accident avoiding something on the road. John Anderson another local rancher and now having proprietary interest in the Good Earth Company that mixes composite with sludge from water treatment to make a saleable soil product  took over the helm from Laurie. The roundtable put a drought warning scale on Nicola Avenue last week  for the Nicola under ground water aquifer, it reads normal or in the green this week.

The round table is a NGO NPS and has maintained a quite yet responsible presence here for some years.

Corn

The local farmers market allows members to sell produce  on the Royal Bank parking lot. Joe a neighbour had three good-looking cobs on friday when asked he said he paid $1.99 for the three. Besides local producers there are artisans and some people who have ideology driving them  to “produce locally and think globally ,one has taken his entire lot and planted produce to drive a point.

Although not a serious threat to the supermarket they are an interesting distraction that empowers some people. Joe also drives to Spence’s Bridge to buy tomatoes off the farm and has his own very productive garden. He is mid 80s and still goes out hunting and fishing for the sustenance. He is productive at fishing and has a smoker made of a fridge in his back yard. Joe a French Canadian made livelihood here for years as a bartender at the Coldwater Hotel and then as a stucco and drywall contractor. He leaves a very small ecological footprint as he composts and works his yard well ;he has flowers and trees on a fifty foot lot in the center of town and is a happy man living with his ageing wife.

Dog show

Every summer for years there has been a dog show in Voght Park. We have yet to hear of the one this summer. We know that the volunteers were having a time keeping up the interest. However their results were always great. The CanineReview sent a coverage Van and the breeds were demonstratively beautiful. We hope they are taking a rest and will be back next year.

Elkhart lodge

There was a small fire reported in the proximity of the Elkhart lodge yesterday and it was said to have been responded to by emergency crews and is assumed out. The Elkhart lodge is on the Okanogan connector divided freeway between Merritt and West Bank or Kelowna. The concept of a divided highway gives safety and security from cross traffic at level crossings however there is one exit on each phase of the Coquihalla highway system , Lac le Jeune on the Kamloops route 5 and Kingsvale on the Hope phase to Vancouver . ( not level crossing)

There was a standing joke about Elkhart when the highway was under construction as highways policy was to connect communities rather then by pass them ,hence people were calling it Elkhart BC however there is no community but a hunting lodge and a way into wilderness for hunting and prospecting interests.

No word on if the local library will be signing out people soon to complement learning as a blurb on the internet says is occurring somewhere (Surrey according to the Vancouver Sun).
