Snow cap

Water levels are dropping rapidly on the local rivers , however the western mountains still have visible snow on them.

About the second week in august the dew point goes low enough to give much comfort to the fire situation here. that is a mater of less than seven weeks from now , meaning to the casual observer that fire season may be moderate this year .

Royal Tour

Royal Visit

The 2nd in line to the throne of Great Britain is touring the country with his new bride.

I was involved in a royal tour in 1971, our regiment was not a Duke or royal sponsored one. The Rocky Mountain Rangers. However about a decade later in a return visit the Prince Philip bestowed some world war one battle honours on it in Kamloops.

The crown has a very complex way of ensuring loyalty among regiments and was their stock and trade in chauvinistic times. We are glad the world moved on from that but   still enjoy its residue in  a historical sence.

Canada post

The local PO was locked out as of yesterday. Two workers one with a flag were walking the sidewalk  in front of Canada posts building here.

When asked they said that the issue was safety and pensions in particular pensions for  workers in the union that are not full-time employees. They worry that leverage is used with them to gain concessions amongst the full timers.

The government has now tabled legislation to order them back today.

Texas Rednose Pitbull

I saw a beautiful dog on sunday. The dog , a Texas Rednose Pit bull named Kilo. The animalis pure breed  with no papers  and at 8 months weighs 64 lbs . A sleek, toned and attractive dog. The owner says that it is a one person dog , and very faithful.

The snout  is longer than a  regular pit bull , the one with a bad reputation. And this owner says it is not an aggressive breed.

Lots of people love animals here and as of this morning the Angels Animal Rescue Society is on top of the Pepsi funding contest  that would help see a pet sanctuary here. According to local radio

Business licence

The local authorities are asking for more diligence in Business licencing, Licence is required by jurisdiction, and that comes from property. If you do business in a city you at least may be required to get a peddlers licence  tahts a temporary license if you are presenting on public property. If you have property were you meet your customers and advertise you need to have a business licence.

Business licenses are permits issued by government that allow individuals or companies to conduct business within the government’s geographical location It is the authorization to start a business issued by the local government. A single jurisdiction often requires multiple licenses that are issued by multiple government departments and agencies. Business licenses vary between countries, states, and local municipalities. There are often many licenses, registrations and certifications required to conduct a business in a single location. These are not needed for sole proprietorship. (source Wikipedia )

Stanley cup

The cup went pro in 1914, after a several years a mature hockey status. The same year that the great war started we presume that able bodied men competed for it as it was awarded every year in both great wars. Neither the Kaiser nor Hitler stopped fighting for the championship game , and the former Governor General of Canada ,Lord Stanley admonition that the park in Vancouver that also bears his name (and we would think his philosophical outlook on the cup), that it’s 1000 acres be enjoyed by all Peoples customs and creeds for all time went on deaf ears.

The cup was not awarded during the 1919 spanish flu epidemic  and in recent time  a players lockout kept it from being awarded. Now thats civil.

Would have been nice to see it back in the city that has the great park with his name on it.  Although the chauvinism of that time that spilled into so much grief in the great war is best not reenforced.

The series was a great entertainment and lots of fun. Outcomes are never a sure thing in that game.
