British Columbia hydropower and authority is a crown corporation or more understandably a non-profit enterprise chartered by the government to provide basic electricity to industry and consumers at a not for profit, minimum cost to the residences of British Columbia.
Not for profit means to keep returning retained earnings from year to year to the operation of the entity.
This flies in the face of the free market entrepreneurial driven philosophy that in some people’s minds creates what is called the unseen hand of market capitalism and provides for everyone in a trickle-down regime.
Canada is not a socialist country but it has a deliberately planned mixed economy so that the basics are provided and efficiencies from time to time are directed by government and returned to rate payers.
Although a number of marketing boards have gone by the way entities like BC hydro, the milk marketing board, and others must apply for rate increases and provide any efficiencies towards lower usage fees.
This is often resulting in secure bases for that risk generating entrepreneurial hand to operate and not cause things like critical shortages and loss of resources to wastage with unfettered marketing.
Are they getting carbon credits?
Oh. Canada we regard for you, a worldview that couldn’t make the true north Blue.

The Vancouver Avian Research Centre runs the bluebird nest-box program in the Nicola Valley – several of our members volunteer for this program. In addition to monitoring and cleaning the nest-boxes the group also records breeding success of both Western and Mountain Bluebirds and bands the chicks for long-term research. Carol Matthews is the Director of Public Outreach for the VARC and will describe the work being done on bluebirds in our area and beyond.

Facts need to be verified and they are sometimes very tied by attribution, so you should be concerned that who is saying a fact has and what their credibility is this logical person, the fictional character of Spock has some credibility I’ll ever remember he is fictional so we wish that you might all take heed and verify your facts. Two species of beautiful bluebirds nest in the Nicola Valley – Mountain Bluebirds (Sialia currucoides) and Western Bluebirds (Sialia mexicana). Both species suffered precipitous declines in the mid- to late-1900s due to logging of old forest and streamside Cottonwoods that provided nest cavities, and the invasion of the introduced competitor European Starling. Today most of our bluebirds nest in nest-boxes provided on fence-posts in suitable open habitat. The Vancouver Avian Research Centre runs the bluebird nest-box program in the Nicola Valley using local volunteers – monitoring and cleaning the nest-boxes, recording breeding success and banding the chicks for long-term research. Carol Holmes and Susan Newton are local volunteers with this program and will describe the work being done to conserve bluebirds in our area and beyond.
