In Merritt he works as a Range Agrologist for the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. He works with range licence holders to promote sound management practices, monitor range health, and provide science-based decisions to achieve good range management plans.

Merritt is a great open range area with traditional cooperative use of land in a tenured system of licencing and ownership working to give maximum benefit to all stake holders that comply with published protocols.

BC Hydro says that 1 – 50 cars sold in BC are electric.

According to a report, over the long-term, some electric vehicles are less expensive than comparable gas-powered cars in ownership costs. One of the reasons electric vehicles are cheaper is due to B.C. having among the lowest electricity rates in North America.

This is how popular models stack up in cost of ownership per year (excluding depreciation costs):

  • 2018 Nissan Leaf ($2,848) vs. 2018 Honda Civic ($4,313)
  • 2018 Chevrolet Bolt ($3,299) vs. 2018 Chevrolet Spark ($4,298
  • 2018 Kia Soul EV ($3,109) vs. 2018 Kia Soul gas-powered ($4,845)

BC hydro is puffing its emerging market for EVs, ( electric vehicles) they cite 1000 chargers in the province and of them 30 are quick chargers. Another 26 fast chargers are planned.

There is a new quick charger in Merritt BC 2200 block Voght street. The Green highway also has a handful of 200 amp chargers as well as one local motel has a Tesla quick charger and a number of regular chargers.

May 7th and 9th will see a the CRTC for the emergency alert system for smart phones. These apps have been available since April 6th 2018.

This is in concert to the National Emergency Preparedness Week May 7th to 12th.

As of April 6, 2018, Canadians with most LTE devices will get those same warnings on their smartphones, in a form similar to text messages. Wireless public alerts have been tested by emergency agencies, and are mandatory across the country.

You may want to pay attention and consider with care, they have said that they have remedied false alerts such as a recent missile alert in Hawaii.

Alerts will sound, unless your device is muted or turned off, for events like natural disasters, extreme weather and terrorist attacks. The shrill, siren-like alarm tone is the same one that currently accompanies emergency broadcasts on radio and television.

Tests run on different days for different provinces.

Walk facing the oncoming traffic!

win_20161021_13_41_33_pro

So they build great sidewalks for the use of many people to walk to destinations. We know of people that lost legs to walking with the oncoming traffic coming in the lane right at their back. Never mind death wish crazed drivers there are heart attacks, mechanical failures, weather bursts any number of reasons to be one lane away from traffic when walking close to the curb or even on the sidewalk.

Walking in a group maybe talking about the game all the more reason to see the oncoming traffic in the closest lane.

Simple but people are not thinking of being hurt they are relaxed and mostly in attentive. The consequences are terrible to lose a leg or your life causes  distress to everyone involved.

Stay safe, pay attention, keep alert. Walk with the oncoming traffic in full view!

The famed musical ride is purported to be coming to the Merritt Rodeo grounds in August. It was last here in the summer of 1988. The demonstration of lancers, riding horses set to music is a popular exibit at many summer events. The season starts for the ride on May 15th with the commissioners inspection.
The Schedule for Merritt says August 7th 2018, a local source says Rotary has sponsored it and tickets are available through them soon.

Every spring, the RCMP Commissioner visits the Musical Ride stables in Ottawa, Ontario to inspect the Musical Ride before the start of their summer tour. The 32 horses and riders of the Musical Ride line up in rows and the Commissioner passes by each rider and horse to ensure they meet the regimental standard of dress and deportment. The Commissioner then watches the first official performance of the season and sees first-hand that the Musical Ride is ready to represent the RCMP and Canada during their annual tour.

Over the course of the 2018 tour, the Musical Ride will perform in approximately 40 communities in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. Musical Ride performances are a Canadian tradition which helps raise funds for local charities and community initiatives across Canada.
