Voght park, the site of many events including fire practice and the Merritt Country Run

This coming Sunday is the running of the Country run here in Merritt. The annual event is organized as a non-profit to raise moneys to help young people who may be barred from participation in life by a lack of financial support. The event is structured as a non competitive fun day however a serious non professional effort is not ruled out. some runners in earlier years have also competed in Marathons of a more competitive nature and leading to the Boston type marathon. A half marathon is available to those that may try. A running group has met weekly for conditioning in training for the event.

The non competitive fun and inclusive demeanor still applies and we caution that exertion should be reasonable to your physical conditioning level and never rule out a talk to your doctor about a run that may push your level of strength. half marathon, 10k walk/run 5k run/walk are available for registration. At this writing there are 83 people participating. Beside business and school teams.

The run includes an event t-shirt ,rates at a 10 dollars for twice around the track – Through 105 dollars for a family.

Registration closes on Friday June 6th at 6:00 PM: http://merrittcountryrun.ca

Teachers off work

There is a teachers, work  action, scheduled for Monday the 26th the local swimming pool is offering support for children effected by the work action, by having a theme day. A person at the pool said the day has no significance other then support for children that may have the day free. They are asking them to bring a lunch with nut free snacks, a source says that there are to many allergies linked to nuts and the pool does not want to have to supervise children with that kind of risk. A retired doctor says that peanuts are especially linked to that sort of thing.

The action affects the public school district and is does not include the college system. A member at work at a local college on Monday said they do not know what the issue is and does not know if they will be supporting it.

UP date:

The mainstream media reported 17 districts out on Monday, now there is a teachers strike day scheduled for thursday here at the city run pool , and for district 58.   8.30 to 400 pm For kids.

Darling buds of May

The season changes little from the time of Shakespeare , temperatures are closing to near 30 degrees, standing at 24 degrees  of Celsius officially now and buds of trees are bursting out into leaf all about this bottom valley land of the Nicola valley that Merritt occupies.

With a cooling trend in the forecast for Sunday after 3 days of probable rain the long weekend maybe a mix of pleasure and restraint, however  it comes out, live through it by driving safely.:  http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/bc-49_metric_e.html
