Rememberance Day

Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month 11 Hour.

We remember at Proprietor Review.

  • World War II MemorialThe Japanese needed security and provoked the second world war for fill. Yes fill, the crafty fellows thought that the world would respond by firing artillery shells into the island nation, plugging holes and filling cracks so that they had land to live and grow on. That has to be true as when the game went atomic the war was over because no more fill.
England, Japan and New Zealand are about the same size with the latter being slightly larger than the Japanese 4 islands that house their 100 million people.
    Points
  • Snakes, there are no snakes in New Zealand as In Ireland they didn’t make it out of the ice age.
  • Did I mention that the Mauri go down to spirit bay to start their long, long journey to Paradise?
  •  A least one 1200 year old tree centers the splendid sand and greenery for the fauna in New Zealand
  • A small lizard survives the from the Dinosaur age we think he must have liked to eat frozen snakes.
    • Did I mention that the Mauri go down to spirit bay to start their long, long journey to Paradise?
  • product placement
  • 1/4 acre syndrome; the  inhabitants of New Zealand have lawns and single family dwellings and their favorite pastime is self home renos.
    • Did I mention that the Mauri go down to spirit bay to start their long, long  journey to Paradise?
  • 20 to 1 sheep, there is peace and contentment as the 3 million odd people in New Zealand can all count sheep to go to sleep at night.

    • Did I mention that the Mauri go down to spirit bay to start their long, long journey to Paradise?

It’s a long, long way to paradise from spirit bay….

If the Japanese can make it to Vancouver they can fly for about a thousand dollars to New Zealand  via commercial air carrier .

Note there are poisonous sea snakes in the ocean off New Zealand     .

  • Did I mention that the Mauri go down to spirit bay to start their long, long journey to Paradise?
  • please note the one pointless note….*

Triathlon

About 40 grade twelve students are about the 1900 block of Nicola avenue at this writing  holding a finish ribbon for competitors in a school triathlon. he competitors team up in threes and each take an event including a bike from lower Nicola an unincorporated area about 5 miles south on highway 8, and a run from 1900 Nicola , up through Parker behind the bench and around back by the golf course to 1900 block Nicola a distance of about 6 KMS and finally 20 lanes both ways in our olympic indoor pool. The demeanor of the runners is hard  and full of effort, as vocal cheering takes place.

Opinion:this is a good sign for those young people involved and boads well for those that seem to take it serious.Kudos to Merritt Secondary School.

Book sale

This morning the regional library saw a line up for used books at the opening time of 10 Am. there were about 30 odd people that waited to get at the used book bargains presented . The sale will go on for 2 weeks and one free book  per day coupons are in the newspaper and at the counter of the library. a steady stream of people enjoyed picking up used paper backs  for 50 cents and hard covers for a dollar.

What is left over after 2 weeks are destined for the recycle bin and the cycle of withdraw will begin again. The library stays fairly current and some bppks are only a year or so old when withdrawn.

This valley has a tradition in the cattle business and supports a segment of the population that keep the cowboy and wrangler lifestyle. As with other pursuits in the world it generates a following and some industry, in this case a green or friendly to, or close to the earth .

There is a tack shop and saddle maker on the corner of Nicola and Garcia and they take pride in producing quality tack .     Also a school for saddle making under the name of Don Lowen.  They have saddles on the go and it may be worth a look at the ones in progress, the Garcia street side door opens on the shop and I was recently invited in by a worker and saw two  saddles on the go.

Cowboy poets and painters set a tone for that community often celebrated at the Quilchena Hotel on Nicola Lake about 20 minutes from here. They celebrate by reenactments musical gatherings and the opportunity to live their lifestyle in a semi public way. Saddles are a status symbol to those that ply the trade at the local cattle ranches including the famous Douglas Lake Cattle Company.

Many first nations people have also taken up that lifestyle here.

I went by the new wood pellet plant today and took a picture of the a man supervising a bagging operation.
A source says that there may be some hiring when the dryer is finished in about 6 weeks.
The wood pellet plant seems new and modern and clean without clutter or grease. On the way over I upbraided a child that was playing between the wheels of a parked logging truck. He agreed it was a danger and took his plastic gun and played elsewhere. The truck had nothing to do with the pellet plant however; people should pay attention to their own children.

Last evening a great amount of joy came to many children and others as the annual audit on harvest went door to door. Fire works seemed earlier this year as the display at central park lit up the sky. We think to keep the event with in reasonable bounds as many parties and dress events occurred on the weekend. A Zombie walk hosted at the Library saw a parade from Rotary Park by all those that took the time to have professional painters make them up  and use torn clothing acquired from the health care auxiliary thrift shop.

No reports of bears being a problem however one report that they were seen.

Till next years event have a great harvest .
