The event in the form of a film of 76 minutes with Q and A of 30 minutes will be in Merritt on Sept 28th at the civic center. The film is a documentary with many awards they have a web site http://www.cleanbinmovie.com .They cite and independent blog as a reviewer, that is Simon Fraser University a public institution:

http://blogs.sfu.ca/services/volunteer/2011/06/the-clean-bin-project-shows-its-possible-to-live-with-minimum-waste/

The employee of TNRD that was setting out posters said the film documents a couple that live virtual garbage free for  year. The handout has an invitation to bring batteries and cell phones to recycle. The film was made by peg leg films. The film has the honour of the ” the best Canadian Documentary ”  from Projecting Change Film Festival 2010 as well as 6 other awards and notables.

The last film that came through here with the same tone was a film on the Skeena River and oil exploration the film had a propaganda warning. With all the government interest in this film we will looking to see if they solicited other points of view with its benefits and draw backs. That would

No doubt that there is a compelling public interest in garbage and its reduction whether it makes the jump to entertainment and art will be seen:

Upcoming public viewings of the Clean Bin Project.

A lot of social pressure in this and the image of plastic in the ocean is a compelling one . Remember to get a balanced point of view and do what you can with out it making  you a slave to it.

Nicola River Duck

The Nicola River has  a short piece that comes from Nicola Lake to Merritt’s west entrance and joins with the Coldwater River  a distance of less then 20 kilometers. The river then continues to Spence’s bridge then into the Thompson river  on its way to the Fraser and the sea It actually begins about 30 kilometers north-west of Kelowna draining The Thompson Plateau and connecting historic Douglas lake with Nicola lake.

The piece in Merritt includes a meander through the Golf Course and some ranch land  it is home to many bird and animal species including the mallard I entered in the Consumer Protection BC contest. Deer and red fox are reported as being seen often and many deer tracks come to the river and then return to the hills about town.

You can vote for our duck photo once a day on about page 17  of the Consumer Protection BC face book page till the voting ends on the 23’rd of September.

Opinion:

The tenth anniversary of the terror attack on the U S involved thousands of people who were affected by it . The backlash also killed hundreds of thousands in the middle east and changed the world.

Some comfort comes out of the knowing that the world is somewhat neutered since. And the fact that   hatred is near exhausted and  its resolve never was strong enough to enable  use of weapons of mass destruction. This is a credit to those in the security job that was before and after. Though the ability to use the airliners as delivery vehicles is a threat, a secure cockpit and a fail-safe policy to never opening a cockpit to anyone in flight or before would be a reasonable diligence to keep going forward. A sense of civil liberty to the general public would be a desirable thing going forward also. And  a healing that includes understanding  to all that lost without justifying  why. This may  help the survivors. Common ground  is for those of us that have a civil life. To those that have to protect that right a different world view is a daily job and career which may never be fully put down.

Philippines President Estrada convicted of  the crime of plundering.

editors note:  Democracy  depends on an informed citizenry especially at election time, critical thinking skills and awareness is a duty of all of us to keep each other safe and keep up our freedom. On the other end of the scale reliance on rulers for security can result in the great game and ordinary people left out till something like this happens. You decide were your personal duty lies and were to draw the line…..

The restaurant was a popular place for coffee and a sandwich for some years as managed by Val and we expect that her love child was not sold to people who would not keep up her legacy….

Two Dollar Gas

Battle of the Bulge

Image via Wikipedia

Two dollar gas, the Republican Presidential Nomination debates last evening brought up the specter of 2 dollar gas.  The overwhelmingly free market responders looked at it as if they were deprived children looking through the glass of a candy store. Is it realistic , to expect it again? We say yes that relative cheap energy , energy that is  readily available  to meet all demand is  most desirable and the thing that the Governments should have the most influence over as all the other issues  are tied to its success.

We think of the reason that free markets exist today as when totalitarian forces  went to  repel the  forces of democracy  they had the equipment , the men, and the tanks but not the  gas the Battle of the Bulge stalled as tanks stalled and Nazis  tankers walked away from them.It would be a shame not to employ all the smarts of the people and science of the US into achieving and sustaining that ability to reach relatively cheap energy. For those that sacrificed so much .

Fall coming

Indian Summer, the weather is warm the  days  bright with  happy people feeding on free vitamin D provided by the sun and giving brain chemicals a lubricated  sence of goodness..This location in the south central part of British Columbia is rife with things coming , harvest, October Fest and hunting.. We will look  for big game coming through town on the back of pick up trucks in the next few weeks.  There is a limited entry bow season on moose going now till the 19th in the Kootenay.

Check regulations for details in the various regions and remember there are 152 species nearing  some classification of endangerment, in this province.

The Americans are getting ready for the republican party’s 2012 presidential candidates debate and looking at what a democratic president may speak to congress about on thursday for another stimulus program. We wonder if they are starting to understand an earlier statement that trying to stimulate an economy with spending is like standing in a bucket and trying to lift your self up by the handle.

Alexander the Great was Alexander the Third of Philip of Macedonia‘s house. He whispered a horse down as a teen ager that no one could ride .He then conquered the world from its saddle. Bringing peace and security against tribalism.

He died at 33 years of age leaving the world free of strife for 40 years past his death; before breaking up into factions again.
