There is aman practicing acupuncture here in Merritt. In the 2000 block of Granite avenue in a shared venue with Doctor Collen Gage the  local chiropractor the oriental gentleman shares two rooms in the clinic.

Mary a local , has used the service is satisfied and says that her extended health plan as a retired teacher covers 70 percent of the treatment costs.

acupuncture was in the public view in recent months as one practitioner had billed MSP over a million dollars in one year for alternate medicine. The US veterans affairs has substituted acupuncture for some pain drug therapy for veterans with chronic pain.

The practice had a booth at a local health and wellness fair last year here, gambling addiction counselling and holistic food therapy shared the venue.

Editors note: Chronic pain is often the result of soft tissue injuries, a liability that is often suspect in at fault accidents.

The Nicola naturalists had their presentation last night and  DR Kerridge told all about bats. He dispelled some beliefs in particular, bats are not blind but prefer sonar for hunting. He kept bats and said they were expensive to keep as he had to buy expensive meal worms and toss them up toward the ceiling.

Some species of bats have been clocked at 90 km an hour.

About 60 people enjoyed the presentations including the local preamble, of slides and stats. the christmas bird count was related of interest were the 13 Great Blue Herons counted.

Some cormets and humming birds were also of interest.

Fuel price protest

On Saturday there was a small protest against gasoline prices here in Merritt. gasoline had been selling for $1.31 a liter and is now at $1.23. Not low enough for some they had posters out asking for support . A small bunch of demonstrators were noted on Dewolf Way  on Saturday.

Their poster invited people to bring hotdogs, kids, best cheers and smiles.

A source said that gas prices in Kamloops an hour away were $1.09

Editors note BP the huge oil company is reported to have received a multi billion dollar fine recently,this may add insult to injury if gas prices are artificially manipulated to accommodate the fine.
