The TMX project is upgading their Burnaby tank farm.

Burnaby Terminal is the end point of the Trans Mountain Pipeline System. It is a distribution point for crude oil and refined products to local terminals – the Parkland refinery and the Westridge Marine Terminal. Burnaby Terminal currently has 13 tanks with a combined storage capacity of 1.6-m bbl with secondary and tertiary containment. un quote.

On Tuesday April 20th the Lyrid shower will treat people late Tuesday night to a naked eye event.

The wide variety of astronomy events this month will be great for people looking to spend some time outside under the night sky, including families with young children, as they will not require any special equipment apart from a blanket, warm clothes and a clear sky.

Because of states of emergency may limit availability. Households in rural areas should well enjoy depending on cloud cover. Others may be creative so as not to do any thing unsafe.

Meteor season begins…

Summer Meteor Season you sky watchers.

Someone say you should shower more often, maybe they meant Meteor shower. The Earth is intersecting rocky and ice debris fields at times of the year including the Delta Aquariids in late July. In early August there will be Perseids to be seen…

Moon free skies…

There is an advantage to darker skies when viewing meteors as well as being in an area free of ground light pollution. Merritt has a number of excellent places to view night skies.

Peaking shower, winter solstice

The Ursid meteor shower will be peaking on the 22nd, the annual shower has  had up to a hundred meteors and hour in the past at peak and in will be radiating down from the base of the little dipper,  (look up from Polaris)

The peak is the morning of December 22, but tomorrow morning or Friday morning (December 21 or 23) might yield some meteors as well.

The winter solstice will also be tomorrow at 16;28 UTC, 8:28 PST. The days ( light) will begin to get longer until the spring equinox in March and the summer solstice in June.
