Rip, our friend, Jackie Stibbards..

Our co  council from the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council, Jackie. Recently passed from this life. photo KDG.

Fondly remembered and offered the chair to the incumbent president at the AGM  she was instrumental in the preservation of arts  and it’s orderly transition in the City of Merritt.

Complete with the amalgamation of the organizations, Visual artists of Merritt and the Community Arts Council. As she saw as a member, the groups moved from the courthouse gallery into their place of business now at the corner of Nicola and Voght.

Her quiet charm was always a comfort and her movements within the organization always generated a sense of wellness. She will be missed.

Summer students

Karia Anne and Brooklyn, the summer students from the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council here in Merritt have made bright the entrance to the lane on Voght Street across from the credit union going south towards the Coldwater River, with some murals of 🌹 flowers.

Ambiance brighter

That’s wonderful to hear about the murals of sunflowers! Sunflowers are beautiful and vibrant symbols of summer. They have bright yellow petals that resemble the sun, hence their name. These cheerful flowers are often associated with happiness, warmth, and positivity. Sunflowers can bring a sense of joy and optimism to any space, and it’s great that the summer students from the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council have chosen to include them in their murals. The image you provided showcases the incredible work they have done in brightening up the entrance to the lane on Voght Street. The sunflowers are sure to bring a smile to the faces of those who pass by. Keep up the great work! 🌻

Interior Salish Piece

Kathy at the Old Courthouse Galley says that this piece of art is Interior Salish First Nations and is a little uncommon as most art is Northwest Coast, First Nations in BC. The piece is being kept at the Gallery, on Nicola Avenue.
The Gallery is having a showing of 10 local artists starting Saturday including
three with international renown. Pious Chong, Arnold Mosley and others. The show runs from Friday the 6th to the end of May. Gallery times are three days a week Thursday through Saturday afternoons.
The show is to remember local “master” artist Dianne Kiernan would passed away to cancer recently. Dianne maintained one of the historical homes in the 1800 block of Granite Avenue, a half block from the gallery. she was an established artist in Vancouver but spent summers here.
Saturday the 7th of May sees the artist reception. The Merritt Courthouse Gallery is at 1840 Nicola Avenue in Merritt. :http://www.nvartscouncil.com/
