AGM- Nicola naturalist society Incorporated

Since 2010 in British Columbia, there’s been a group of people that have met and had fellowship going out with their passion to document and expond on the types and conditions for the natural ecology about Merritt.

They have recently changed their meetings from the third Thursday of every month to the second Thursday of every month. So the first meeting for their new year will be this coming Thursday the 20th of September 2026.

The format for the first meeting is always the AGM. The voting bar established by paid up memberships and they will take that at the meeting. For further details or a form that you can fill up prehand to go to their website.NNS

The Brief annual meeting is followed by a member’s photo night and discussion about the photos. And the meetings continue monthly second Thursday to the end of June.

Tom Willms lead in the reintroduction of beavers to the Nicola Valley is presenting the program this Thursday at The Nicola Naturalist Society INC’s regular meeting. The meeting begins at 7:PM at the NVIT lecture theater Belshaw avenue top of the hill campus.

The Society is saying that Beavers are being noted as conservationist creatures with a rightful place in the ecology.

They don’t always build lodges some have network tunnels in the river banks. The places where they build lodges and dams once considered nusence are now recognized as natures fire control. KDG

Meet Tom this Thursday and hear the beaver scoop. Free parking membership or donation encouraged;the group often says all welcome. A draw foe donated goods is available proceeds go towards a student bursary at the college.

Thursday January 16th 2019 the Nicola Naturalists start off their 2020 schedule with a presentation on bats by Paul Mozin.

Paul Mozin is a biologist with the Nicola Watershed Stewardship and Fisheries Authority (Scw’exmx Tribal Council). This group has undertaken an ambitious project to inventory and monitor the bat species in the Nicola Valley. Paul will be presenting the results from last year’s bat inventory, some background on endangered bat species in the Nicola Valley and some actions their group has taken this year. Come and learn more about these important but poorly understood citizens of the night.
