There is free parking and the group is fond of saying “all welcome, membership or donations opportunity available” paraphrased, there is a raffle of naturalist donated articles at break with tickets at the table inside, proceeds support a bursary for a student at the school.

Macro photography is a specialized form of photography that involves capturing small subjects at extremely close distances, typically to highlight fine details that may not be easily visible to the naked eye. To achieve successful macro shots, photographers use a macro lens, which has the capability to focus sharply on subjects at close range and capture intricate details.

To excel at macro photography, it’s important to have a good understanding of lighting, as well as techniques for stabilizing the camera to avoid blurriness. Patience and precision are also key factors, as getting the perfect shot often requires careful adjustment and experimentation with composition.

Tips and Techniques for Macro Photography

Photo KDG ( tube extender and no tripod…)

Macro photography allows you to capture intricate details of small subjects. Here are some tips to enhance your macro photography skills:

1. Use a Macro Lens

  • Invest in a dedicated macro lens with a high magnification ratio.

2. Stable Platform

  • Use a tripod to ensure stability and prevent unwanted blurriness.

3. Adjust Aperture

  • Select a narrow aperture (higher f-stop number) to increase depth of field and keep more of the subject in focus.

4. Lighting

  • Consider using diffused natural light or a ring flash to illuminate the subject evenly.

5. Focus Carefully

  • Pay attention to precise focusing to highlight the intricate details of the subject.

6. Background

  • Choose a clean and uncluttered background to make the subject stand out.

7. Patience

  • Be patient and take your time to capture the perfect shot, as macro photography requires attention to detail.

Remember, practice and experimentation are key to mastering macro photography.

TGIF-2030 coming fast…

So, 2030 is a big year in the experience of humanity, no Vancouver Olympics but air will not be sucked out of the room so to speak. The IOC has come out favouring the French Alps. The official decision is to be made on July 23rd 2024 at the 142nd OAC meeting for Olympic venue selection.

Vancouver’s bid failed to get the support of the BC government and has floundered as The Americans enjoy favour on the 2034 salt lake city venue and others wonder when and why is a successful Olympics bid made.

Decades in making

LNG stands for Liquefied Natural Gas. It is natural gas that has been cooled to a liquid state, which makes it easier and safer to store and transport. This process reduces its volume significantly, making it more cost-effective to ship over long distances. Once it reaches its destination, LNG is converted back into its gaseous state for various uses, such as heating, electricity generation, and as a fuel for vehicles.

Babylon

The city of Babylon, with its rich history and cultural significance, has long been associated with eclipses. In ancient Babylon, eclipses were often interpreted as omens or signs from the gods, and they played a significant role in religious and societal beliefs. Babylonian astronomers were among the first to record and predict lunar and solar eclipses, laying the foundation for future civilizations’ understanding of these celestial events.

The Babylonian practice of using eclipse omens for decision-making highlighted the intersection of astronomy, religion, and governance in their society, and their observations continue to contribute to modern astronomical studies. Eclipses held a profound symbolic and practical importance in Babylon, shaping both individual beliefs and administrative decisions.

The link between Babylon and eclipses serves as a fascinating lens through which we can explore the intersection of ancient belief systems, astronomy, and governance.

TGIF Entropy

Why we work

Entropy, heat goes to cold.

Entropy is a concept from thermodynamics that measures the amount of disorder or randomness in a system. In simple terms, it refers to the tendency of systems to move from a state of order to a state of disorder. This concept is closely related to the second law of thermodynamics, which states that the total entropy of an isolated system can never decrease over time. In practical terms, entropy is often associated with the amount of energy in a system that is not available to do work.

Finding Shelter for the Homeless

Homelessness is a pressing issue that requires community support and intervention. In many cities, homeless shelters play a crucial role in providing temporary housing, meals, and support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. These shelters often rely on the assistance of volunteers and donations to operate effectively.

If you are in need of a homeless shelter, consider reaching out to local social service agencies, community centers, or religious organizations for guidance. Additionally, many cities have dedicated hotlines or websites that can help connect individuals with available shelter options. Remember, you are not alone, and there are resources available to help you during this challenging time.
