A heritage home was burned while the owners were in Kamloops. The Coldwater avenue home of the Robertson family had a restored mine car from the Bralore mine where Jon Robertson works and was designated a heritage home by its age .

A contractor Nick Beers noticed the fire and helped by using a garden hose till the fire trucks responded.

Alex Edmonds is having the court-house gallery for her showing this month. The show runs till October 20th .

Still in her second decade Alex is traveled and keen she hosted a card art seminar earlier this year, here in Merritt.

The sculptor in the show is Atelier Pom, and has made bronze masks of women figures of antiquity to compliment the painting of Alexandra.

The fall speech contest of the local toastmasters club will be at NVIT 0001 , on Sept 29th from 1 -3 PM.

Club 3929 meets on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the multi purpose room.

The local college is in and school is in. NVIT,a couple of sources  say that the school has a capacity of about 500 and has about 300 this semester which is about normal.

Short pants and bikes

Yesterday there were two Constables observed on bikes with short pants. The men were talking to a person in an undeveloped field on Garcia Street.

The Garcia street down town has been a concern for the law and council for  illicit activities and gets attention from the Downtown policing station as well. A constable Tracey Dunsmore is the most active voice for the DPO and its activity about town which includes volunteers.

Golf

There is a Bantam Golf tournament in Town at the Nicola Valley Golf and Country Club. Young people preteen and a little have the course. It is mixed and billed as  2012 Bantam Boy’s/Girls Championship. August 27-28,2012
The event is sponsored by The Vancouver Sun and others.

An  I phone was found on a bench yesterday and turned into the course office. It had a white Mercedes on its wall paper and other things.

There are 17 registered competitors on the program.

Coopers closed

The Cooper’s grocery store in the  was closed last night  and a sign says untill further notice as they have no power. At 6:30 a hydro crew had  the underground service bared and looking for a reason for electrical failure. This morning the same crew says it’s the transformer and it is not one of theirs. so its the stores problem, or the building owner.

No word on the condition of frozen and cooled produce and when it will reopen at this writing.

At 11:am a official said that there is a generator truck coming from Vancouver and refrigerated trucks for produce as well. Joan Nan is saying it is a matter of hours before reopening.

New restaurant

The Travel Lodge on Voght street is under renovation. The area that housed Lads restaurant untill a mildew problem in the basement forced them out is now being made into a combination Japanese and Western cuisine dinning facility.

The young Japanese proprietor says he expects to be running in a month. and its style is Fusion.

On Garcia street there is another pair of young Asian men renovating  a portion of a building  for a Mongolian restaurant. No Building permits are readily seen in the demolition phase of both projects.
