Bus service

We in Merritt British Columbia Canada have a transit service

two small buses run one at a time ,at about 4000 kilometers a month they are at 160,000 kilometers and a source says they  will be replaced with new ones at 200 thousand Ks that will be around Christmas time 2013.

The buses are operated by BC Transit and that is the provincial transit system.Only one full time job and some part timers including one that is retired from big town bus driving. The buses hold under 30 people but are equipped for wheel chairs and bicycles . They will also go to Kamloops and Kelowna on medical preference once a week for 5 dollars there and  return. You must book 24 hours ahead to make sure of service.
Opinion: We hope the new buses are as serviceable and maybe slightly bigger.
The service has an office in the back of the Chamber of Commerce building on Voght Street; just before the junction of Highway 8 and Highway 5-A on Nicola Avenue.
The service is subsidised.

Self checker

The local Thompson Nicola District Library, self checker has been being used for a matter of weeks and is expanded into the general collection from the function of signing out holds. When asked a confirmed source said that there are no plans for signing items in on the machine.

We used the equipment and it works well and it frees library staff to spend more time with people that need more help.

Self checkers are used in some grocery stores but not any in the community of Merritt.

Opinion:

Electronics are every where.  We wonder when the market will have respite from them in some sort of sanctuary. Or free zone. A connected world is certainly a different  world.

Domino's Pizza in Panaji‎, Goa, India

There was a fire at the local Ramada Inn this week and a person at the scene said that it was electrical and that a contractor was at work at the time of the fire.

The Dominos Pizza is out of commission as well, no idea on a dollar value, and the papers say it is still under investigation.

There is a painting at the Baillie House by the British Columbia Artist of the year in two thousand and eight Norman Kelly is a print 185 of 2000. The work is called River Crossing and features three horses and cowboys crossing a river.

That type of art is popular around here and artists like Arthur Mosely and others have a good constituency when it comes c0wboy to art.

The Kelly print is marked down to 50 dollars from a hundred and its being sold as yard sale donations that come regularly  to Baillie House; a registered charity.

Art is in the eye of the beholder and sometimes the estate holder.

There is a cowboy poet at the Public Library here on March 1st.

toastmasters week/month

Toastmasters month, the first full week of february was toastmaster week in earlier years. However a big part of it was a proclamation done in the provincial legislature. The current government and party brought in a policy to sit at certain times and it was not sitting in proximity of the week of February. This year it is toastmasters month and an order in council passed it way back in October. Order in council is the cabinet and we prefered the parliament. However we have  a proclamation and we look forward to toastmaster month in British Columbia. District 21 covers all British Columbia for the toastmaster organization and its worldwide mandate of better communication.
