Clean Bin; Opinion

The peg leg production film Clean Bin played last night here in Merritt about 60 people watched and then asked questions of the stars. The Contractor working for the regional district had a box to recycle batteries and cell phones as well. The film was admission by donation. and the question arose why it was poorly attended the producer said that there was a disconnect with the CBC at this showing and said that their preference is two showings per community.

Some powerful imagery was presented in the film including albatross chicks from Midway Island in the pacific apparently dead with plastic waste in their stomachs.

The issue of the Cache Creek land fill came up in the film and on the phone witha regional district offical said that that was not his mandate however lasndfill costs run about 100 dollars a ton. And to presnt alternatives was a concern of the District.

Our view is that the films attempt to show a concern for reuse  and recycle gave a good sence of a relief of the social pressure that sometimes keeps people using and consuming new products and plastic wrapping.

Live smart and make some choices against extra packaging and you will please the producers of this film.

Fall Golf : file photo KDG

The weather is great here in Merritt and the colour of fall makes a visual feast.

The Nicola Valley Golf and Country Club makes allowances for weather to being open during the declining fall. There are many glorious days to golf each fall .

Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. The US National Weather Service defines this as weather conditions that are sunny and clear with above normal temperatures, occurring late-September to mid-November. It is usually described as occurring after a killing frost. source Wikipedia

National forest week

National Forest Week was last week and I attended one function that of the film night hosted by Jerry Canuel. The 2 films last Thursday evening were A working Forest: its future with fire and wildlife 64 minutes. The film was moderated by Chuck Leavell the legendary Rolling Stones rock artist . The film shows  family owned woodlands in American Society. The second film was Goodwood: 44 minutes  a view of a Honduras livelihood coming from making chairs out of select trees and not from marginal agriculture . Both films were viewpoint well away from the Canadian system of forest resource development.

The film gave a perspective of what other world experience is and how some things compare such as value added and management by fire. Both items have some place in the dynamic of the peripheral forestry efforts here. Jerry Canuel the host of the film night works for mainstream mills and said there method is clear cutting .

Rain

The most pleasant autumn rain made the dust behave this early morning. We have the best of the best here in this area. The leaves are just starting to turn in town with yellows as there was a heavy dew 3 days ago.  The pleasant weather is a lack of traumatic weather such as hurricanes and such makes a place that we rightfully take for granted. One slight earthquake in my living memory was not felt and was deep in the earth giving those that watch those events thee only clue to the quake.
