For the Central Coast…

Weather

Atmospheric river for BC  Central Coast is to bring up to 100  millimeters of rain.

Editors note the prognostication is for 100 millimeters over the time of the AR the river is to continue into next week moving north and to Prince Rupert and on.

Atmospheric rivers (ARs) are complex weather phenomena that can vary significantly in intensity and duration. They are not always extreme but can be categorized into different strengths:

  1. Normal Conditions: Many atmospheric rivers bring moderate amounts of moisture and precipitation without causing any significant impacts. These events can contribute to beneficial rainfall, especially in drought-prone areas.
  2. Extreme Events: Occasionally, atmospheric rivers can be extremely strong, leading to heavy rainfall, flooding, and other hazardous conditions. These extreme cases are often associated with significant weather systems, resulting in impacts such as landslides, road closures, and damage to infrastructure.

Natural air currents, which include phenomena like the jet stream and trade winds, also influence weather patterns but do not always lead to extreme weather. Their behavior can range from stable and predictable to erratic, depending on various factors including ocean temperatures and atmospheric conditions.

Overall, while atmospheric rivers can bring extreme weather, they are a normal part of the climate system, especially in certain regions. Their impacts depend on numerous factors, including geography and existing weather conditions.

Enjoy the moisture.
