Merritt British Columbia receives an average of 22 inches of snow per year, we got something approaching one quarter of that over the weekend. The 6 inches of snow saw numbers of plows back on the triage system for the first time in a while.

Tom at the corner of Merritt and Garcia said he was back to his complaint with the city over plowing in his driveway. Lower Nicola Resident Percy said that – Macdonald was out with a skiff ( eager)…

Our friend Bob passed from this life on December 5th in his one hundredth year. He had danced on a table cloth on the floor at the Florentine, assisted living home, last May for his birthday (a concession from a vow, no table). Bob served in the Commonwealth Air Training Plan in the second war and was one of the Craigmont mine managers.

The mine operated in Merritt from the 1960s to recently and produced a billion lbs of copper, and supplied magnetite to coal operations in Alberta after underground operations ceased.

Bob was a man of integrity and fairness and enjoyed a long career in the mining biz and was active in the Public libraries programs, attending lectures last November. He was a contributor  to the well-being of the community here and the world. KDG

No pipeline through the Great Bear Rainforest, a definitive decision. Success to many.

The Burnaby from Edmonton approved expansion will see one medium tanker a day every day. One tanker a day should be safer then the possibility of collision. Some diligent people will need to secure the confidence of Vancouver people.

One hundred and fifty seven conditions came out of consultations on the approval of Trans Mountain’s expansion and some conditions by the province need to be met.

The Government is probably interested in carbon schemes .(to help pay for the fiduciary duty to people)
Editors note: Bad faith must be avoided!
When permits are let there must be a reasonable expectation of completion for the risk taken. Permits were let and a 63 year operation with a proven track record and a good community record is not valued enough. We lose something in this.

Trans Mountain’s operation effects us all; what did they expect to happen when permiting the original development. What do you expect when hiring someone…. This is Us not Them!

Keep up the scrutiny….
That’s it KDG

New walk on Nicola Avenue from the bridge area of the highway 8 entrance to Merritt and the historic meat market store at the junction of 97c and 5A .

Under the walks new waterlines were laid and pressure tested to 200 psi on a time pressure loss scale. ” 185 psi at the end of the time was within aceptable limits, but it remained at 200 for the test” ( to the corner of Chapman and Nicola at least )

A new waterline under the sidewalk gave an economy to the repave as it saved digging up the exsisting lines under it. No word on the economy of future repairs.

A neighbour says that the meat market building was sold to Koreans as an investment in recent months.

Motor cops are a bit of theater in our view however they are not actors, tickets still bite.

The local Naturlists will be featuring a presentation on ants on the 20th of October. The event is at the local college lecture theater on Belshaw Avenue, top of the hill, in Merritt.

Ants are one of the most successful groups of animals on the planet. About 15,000 species have been described and they contribute more biomass to most ecosystems than any other animal group. Dr. Rob Higgins is an entomologist at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops – a keen naturalist and an enthusiastic speaker. He will describe this diversity of ants and the ecological roles that ants play in British Columbia. He will also talk about new arrivals – the fire ants – that are overshadowing our native species.

No food or drinks allowed in lecture theater.
