There was a trailer in Merritt this morning filled with rowing boats the trailer was marked Edmonton rowing club.

Not of lot of water around Edmonton it must be a challenge to find rowing venues there?

The Hitching post

The Hitching post is a theme restaurant at Lower Nicola BC , a little unincorporated community about 7 km West of Merritt. Lower Nicola has a community hall, community water and Smith pioneer park. The cowboy themed Hitching Post was once a general store and Canada Post outlet; know as Bevan’s store.

Lower Nicola is a photographers paradise this time of the year with many interesting buildings fall colors of tress  that grow around the Nicola river and local creeks.

They are offering steak and lobster on October 27th for $37.00 a plate in a featured evening including live music.

Today the 2013 Noble peace prize will be awarded.

Albert Noble put aside a perpetual award from the money he got for developing dynamite. He had hoped that his invention would only be used for peaceful purposes, he was saddened to see it applied to warfare. However over all his invention saved the lives of many explosive handlers over time as it stabilized nitro..

On September 24th the Merritt Public library is having a presentation on 3D printing. The presenter  Jeff Gates is said to be a pioneer in this technology.

Wolfs

Some locals spent so time in the alpine meadows of honeymoon Basin in Cabin lake area on Stoyoma mountain. The bunch then took the  trail down to the Fraser river and said that they had met wolf‘s on the way down.Chris Lepsol said  , a local naturalist said that was not aware that any wolf’s were in the area.  Wolf’s were hunted heavily  in previous decades and  bounty paid for their eradication. Farmers blamed livestock losses on them. While that is possible, more enlightened thought has given the predator credibility in keeping virus levels down . We think that a balance of nature is to be appreciated.

The Coldwater Hotel  on the corner of Quilchena and Voght is the hotel that has seen most of the post contact history of the city of Merritt. The Hotel was established in 1908 nad is now under a new owner John Allison a D jay and MC has ” Proprietor” on his business card. The hotels tagline is: The finest taste of history in Merritt.

The Hotel is in need of a paint job however in holds the confidence of many in the restaurant and pub. Recently I talked to a traveler enjoying a steak in the Pub . He and his wife had been around the world in a MG sports car .
