Israeli moon landing

Israeli moon landing

coming.

Israel has joined 7 others in orbit around the moon and will soon join three dominate countries by landing on the earths orbiting cousin. The landing will be attempted on Thursday April 11th with their Beresheet space craft. The attempt will be between the hour of 7-8 AM Universal time. ( 12- 1pm PDT on the west coast.)

In position now

A crucial six-minute engine burn was performed on April 4, in order to reduce Beresheet’s velocity relative to the moon by about 620 miles per hour (1,000 kph) – just enough for lunar gravity to capture the spacecraft and prevent it from simply sailing past the moon. Beresheet’s orbit now has a high point of 6,213 miles (10,000 km) and a low point of 310 miles (500 km) above the moon’s surface. It will continue to settle into a circular orbit of about 124 miles (200 km), before it begins its descent.

April 1st snow back 66% of normal: government.

This may not be our situation this spring…

The April 1st measurement of the snow pack shows 66 percent of normal in the Nicola Region, 79 percent elsewhere.

There is a 10 day variance in conditions from year to year as to the 1st April measurement date. Meaning that run off dates starts and finishes can be 10 days different from year to year. However the amount is what is significant to watch. Water content in snow can be different as well.

Snow is difficult to measure because it is subject to drifting, melting and natural compaction. Any point measurement may be quite different from a reading taken only a few metres away. Thus, to measure the quantity of snow in an area, a systematic method for measuring snow has been developed and this is generally referred to as a “snow survey”. Snow survey measurements have been made in British Columbia since 1935.

Gas tax double election windfall…

The BC government is getting some millions from the Feds from gas tax.

The Government of Canada announced a one-time doubling of Gas Tax transfer nationally as part of the 2019 federal Budget. The $2.2 billion transfer will result in a one-time payment of $278.6 million for British Columbia to support local government infrastructure and capacity building priorities.
Local governments in British Columbia will see a bonus payment of Community Works funds  (~$109 million) that will effectively double the 2018 allocation.  Portions of this one time transfer will also be allocated to the Greater Vancouver Regional Fund (~$138 million) and the Strategic Priorities Fund (~$ 30.7 million) as per the federal Gas Tax program delivery model.
Although a transfer schedule has not been confirmed by Canada, it is expected that the first payment will align with the next scheduled Community Works Fund payment in July 2019.
