Run off

High water is here in the Nicola Valley this week and sand bags are in the ditches of the swelling Nicola river with flood warnings issued. Rain has added to the run off which is expected by old timers to be pronounced this week.

We think a late spring may be compounded with warm weather close to June and may have serious results. The Nicola river is controlled by a  dam at Nicola lake and has been satisfactory in recent years. In the past a home has been lost on the Cold water river by erosion and a strong runoff. However it is very seldom and all necessary bridges are set on deep steel piles.

The bridge on highway 8 Voght street is not on steel pilings  however land fall is open on the south side .

Some artistic tags are showing up on some public property. Someone making a statement and perhaps solidifying  members in their group. One is the work of an artist unaware of public property restraints for art.

We hope that they find legitimate ways to express their talents.

Joes concrete

Very attractive bus shelters are going up about town today. The contractor Joes Concrete is a local phone number and is placing  black aluminium and plex glass bench shelters  Garcia Street and Voght.

We hope that an ability to post posters comes with it to keep the number of illegal ones down on power poles.

Won’t be long, we will look for the local contractors expansion to bigger things….. we hope ….

Military killing

Some concern over why OSBINL was not taken into custody and was killed. Some relieved we were spared a trial.

We think that since they were  service men that did the job and they have a mutual interest in the conventions of war that on the balance of probabilities they understood the dynamic of a combatant laying down his weapon and showing empty hands we would think that the people in the compound would be aware of that . However we surmise that radicals perhaps would not be prone to doing that leaving the disposition on the raiders to challenge them. so untill someone comes up with hard testimony to the contrary we think it was legal although a process would have supported the administration of justice and surelyundermined arbitrary action.

Model airplanes

There  is an interest in powered Model flight here. A fellow and his son were in Voght park on Sunday flying a gas-powered radio controlled plane. Looks like fun. He says he belongs to a club in Logan lake a small community about an hour away. His rig cost him about 500 dollars and has others. Club membership comes with liability insurance for licensed areas. A program called phoenix is an online simulator program to qualify you for radio control. He had crashes before using it. As did others. One thing in particular you need to master is that the control is actuated backward when the model is returning from the direction sent.

It looks like fun and a hobby that must account for others like Paintball, which he is also credentialed in. Good luck and blue skies to the people in Merritt that will pursue this.

An 80 dollar insurance package and training is available to people that want to try it with out membership an unconfirmed sources says..
