Mine town

This home is on the bench in here. The Bench was a new development when the mine opened in the early 60’s. My Dads Uncle built the second home as a contractor and others after. The bench had a color divide until this home was purchased by an Asian. Now owned by another Asian who has two subway franchises here, it’s a different world now. We think that it was not on purpose but reflected the economic divide and a the minority status of Asians immigrating here that worked agriculture and sawmilling, the richness of the mine brought people with more expectations than those from overseas.

Alternate school

Another diver son program and alternate school that has emphasis on positives with a less than positive client base, peers able to find positives without the competition of the elites. There are a number of these things about here; all small-scale and without the  distraction of large numbers.

TBM

TBM Cleaning Service, in the 1980’s when the new Conservative government came to power the post office went from a government agency to a crown corporation.Matt Thompson the local Postmaster was offered a 30 thousand dollar buy out of his job along with thousands of others. He took advantage and started a business including blinds and a sowing supply shop. This business was a part as well. It is licensed, has insurance ,and bonded a real selling point for those that need security of their files and premises at night.

There are some people from time to time advertise house cleaning without the bonding and insurance and you still get what you pay for.

The business has good equipment and clean trucks in good condition.

Postage increase

Alexander Graham Bell, 1946 stamp

I recently used this 1946 stamp to accent a letter I posted to an in-house friend, I thought it was timely as that week the company was fined 1.3 million dollars that they agreed to  for violating the no call list administered by Revenue Canada. Bell a Canadian and a Scott invented the telephone, a challenge to the market of Canada Post; both survived.Today I saw a brochure showing that the postage is going up to 59 cents and tax from 54, next week. This may be a result of decreased volumes of 1st class mail due to electronics. The rates for letter mail in the range of 400 to 500 grams at $3.50 is a 25 cent increase. the nearly 10 percent 1st class increase is bigger then the 7 odd percent increase on letter mail in large envelopes from 400- 500 Grams. Handling must be higher on the larger items so the reason has to be higher expected volumes.
