There was a small service van outside the Nicola Valley Aquatic Center. An unfamilar worker was putting a smart meter on the Building, He said that they are installing the last of them about 25,000 in the province. He thought the total for the province was an amount over 1 and 1/4 million.

We agreed that when they start broadcasting in January the consumer will be able to go online to their hydro account and see the amount of consumption. As well the peak usage. He had no opinion if there would be an off peak rate.

The new pellet plant idled by technical problems shows up on the property tax assessment rolls at about 3.1 million dollars in actual value. The value contributes to an over all real property value of about 900 million dollars in the small city of Merritt with its population of about 8000 people.

The company that owns it is said to have another in Ontario and are in difficulty at this time with some legal contentions. The plant was to employ about 50 people and did employ and produce a product . The product is said to have had an unsuitable moisture content for burning. A marketing  of the product for animal beds was tried and then an additional dryer purchases and on the property uninstalled.

The plant contributes to the tax base and in the opinion of citizens needs to be used. A belief  exists that it was a good way of dealing with bug killed timber that has started to be a problem in regular sawmills due to dryness.

A source at the city says that the car charger installed in the Voght street parking lot will be free for a time. The city economic development officer  James A.Umpherson, says that they are negotiating with the province and the company to see how that will shake down .

The site is GPS enabled and will eventually be available to smart card use. There is a sign saying the area is video scrutinized. No camera as yet visible. an although the charging cable is attached no one has been seen using it. Something that you would think would have accompanied the start up.

Opinion:

This is a recent thing in jurisprudence but has been about in human activity for a long time. Deceit in war and peace is the sometimes essence of engagement amongst rivals and those that can’t compete at a legitimate level.

Along with bad faith the world has often been at odds with each other over misstatement of fact and the actions that come out of it.

People need to be trusting to be human and its a miserable thing to have to live in distrust.

Find someone you love today and hug and give a trusting smile .

OPINION:

We have a person here  working from Nepal, we much appreciate his perspective coming from a country that has recently become a republic. He spoke recently about world empires and we know how much trouble colonial and empire building have been to humanity in the past.  We regard his experience as valid and useful in understanding the drives of people and how sometimes unrealistic ambition has damaged to the whole.

The gentleman works here for the forests at government and was recently at a toastmaster meeting as a guest. We remember that the international agenda of organizations put in place after the Second War were to” make the world safe for small nations” We Canadians are grateful for our place in the world and our significance that has matured under that mandate and we wish Nepal the same in their self-determining future.

Last evening a great amount of joy came to many children and others as the annual audit on harvest went door to door. Fire works seemed earlier this year as the display at central park lit up the sky. We think to keep the event with in reasonable bounds as many parties and dress events occurred on the weekend. A Zombie walk hosted at the Library saw a parade from Rotary Park by all those that took the time to have professional painters make them up  and use torn clothing acquired from the health care auxiliary thrift shop.

No reports of bears being a problem however one report that they were seen.

Till next years event have a great harvest .
